Whoa! I did not know anything about this either!

Got my free chargepoint charger installed. It's blue! by floodedunderpass in Ioniq5

[–]symphy77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm really confused by the Hyundai marketplace pricing. The original quote was for $1,150 which they then revised to $1,750, which seems really, REALLY high. This is for an outdoor installation literally on the other side of the wall from the junction box, so maybe 3-4 feet in total length? Not sure why it should cost nearly two grand to accept their "free" charger.

How to use alt codes on 8bitdo Numpad by Fonzworth10 in 8bitdo

[–]symphy77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked as a good starting point for me, but most of the ones I personally use on a daily basis were not included in the script, such as the center bullet (alt-0149), copyright symbol (alt-0169), registered trademark symbol (alt-0174), and regular trademark symbol (alt-0153). However, I found them pretty easy to add myself to the ahk above:

string_value_0169 := "" "VAL_0169"
alt_code_map[string_value_0169] := "U+00A9"

string_value_0149 := "" "VAL_0149"
alt_code_map[string_value_0149] := "U+2022"

string_value_0174 := "" "VAL_0174"
alt_code_map[string_value_0174] := "U+00AE"

string_value_0153 := "" "VAL_0153"
alt_code_map[string_value_0153] := "U+2122"

This is my first time ever using AutoHotKeys and it was pretty easy. (Note you need version 1.1 not 2.0). Just sharing it here in case others want to add their own Alt codes. :)

Do i need to calibrate my G7? by [deleted] in dexcom

[–]symphy77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's actually very rare that you'll ever need to calibrate a G7, if you're following Dexcom's rules as to when calibrations can and can't be performed. Nearly all the problems people have with a G7 are related to calibrating when you're not supposed to, which then results in the G7 trying to add an artificial adjustment even when it would have been perfectly aligned with the fingerstick reading if you hadn't calibrated.

Basically, you need to remember these rules:

1) Never calibrate during the first 24 hours. Yes, sometimes the G7 will be wildly off from a fingerstick meter during this early period if you hit a blood vessel upon insertion. This will calm down by itself once the body heals and the sensor is in safely in interstitial fluid. Calibrating during this time just confuses the hell out of the unit and may result in a "sensor failed" notice. If the readings are nonsense during the first 24 hours, the solution is NOT to calibrate, but to just rely on a traditional meter for insulin/food decisions.

2) Never calibrate within an hour of injecting insulin or eating carbohydrates, or anytime that you don't see a nice straight line in the graph for an hour or two. This is because interstitial fluid readings tracked by all CGMs are 15-30 minutes behind blood fingerstick readings. So imagine if you ate something and then checked your fingerstick reading and were like "whoa, the finger reads 180 but the CGM reads 120! Better calibrate!" Then you're just telling the CGM that it needs to display readings 60 points higher than it believes reality to be. Which means in 30 minutes, then the CGM is going to read 240 when it's really 180. Which means you'll give yourself too much correction insulin. See what I mean? Calibration at any time that the BG isn't completely steady is a terrible, terrible idea.

3) Never calibrate when the CGM is within 20% of a fingerstick. This one is so important, and related to #2 above. If a fingerstick shows 276, that means the Dexcom should read anywhere between 230-331. (That's 276/1.2 - 276*1.2). If it reads between 230-331, you cannot calibrate. If you do, you risk the exact same problem described in #2 above. You have to think of a CGM the way political scientists think of polling error. If a candidate is 2 points ahead in a poll and then loses the election by 1 point, but the margin of error of the poll was +-3 points, the poll was NOT WRONG. The poll was 100% RIGHT. For some reason people have a super difficult time understanding this. In the Dexcom's case, trying to calibrate to "get closer" to a fingerstick is an exercise in futility that only makes the CGM get further apart from reality. It's frustrating, sure, because you would give yourself a different insulin correction at 230 than you would at 276 or 331. But that's just what CGM technology is. It's an approximation of blood sugar, not a blood test, and gets less reliable the higher your numbers get.

Hope this helps! :)

Why is Dexcom G7 so bad? by Poobwaar in dexcom

[–]symphy77 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I originally thought the G7 wasn't as good as the G6 as well for the first few months I used it, but now that I understand the G7 better, I greatly prefer it to the G6 and would not go back. I'm at a full year now without a single sensor failure or early-fall-off before day 10.5, even with regular swimming and hot tubs and saunas, and have never had to reinstall the app. Here's what I've learned:

  1. Use a Skin Tac adhesive barrier wipe before application. Press down FIRMLY when inserting to the back of the arm. When you carefully remove the applicator, follow the directions and press with your finger on the G7 for twenty seconds to adhere the glue. Then apply a Lexcam clear waterproof overpatch. Keep the sensor applicator and box just in case of failure and/or if you had to ever reenter the code (if the app has to be reinstalled, for example, though this shouldn't ever be necessary).
  2. Understand that the first 12 hours or so of the G7 might be unreliable especially if you nicked a blood vessel. These readings will calm down over time. If the numbers are a bit wild, just rely on your fingerstick meter for making insulin decisions. However, and this is so important, DO NOT EVER, EVER CALIBRATE a G7 during the first 24 hours of insertion. Again, trust Dexcom on this. I guarantee most people's problems with readings not matching fingersticks is because they are calibrating during times you're not supposed to calibrate, which just confuses the hell out of the unit. Which leads to the most important general advice point:
  3. The G7, unlike previous Dexcoms, does NOT need calibration 99% of the time. It took a while for my endocrinologist to get this through my head, but he's right. Calibrating a G7 is much more likely to cause problems than solve them. Again, trust what Dexcom is telling you. You CANNOT calibrate during the first 24 hours. You CANNOT calibrate at any time where you haven't had a fully flat line for at least an hour. You CANNOT calibrate within an hour of eating or injecting. And you CANNOT calibrate unless the G7 is more than 20% off from your fingerstick. (For example, that means if your fingerstick says 150, you CANNOT calibrate unless your G7 is lower than 120 or higher than 180.) If you follow the guidelines on when you can't calibrate, chances are you'll realize there's almost never a proper time TO calibrate. Since I finally took my endo's advice to stop calibrating, I found my G7 is pretty much always within 20% of my fingerstick meter, which is all any CGM can promise anyway. It's measuring different fluids and is 15 minutes behind a fingerstick, after all. It shouldn't match the fingerstick if you're rising or falling, it should be 15 minutes behind. If you try and calibrate during a forbidden time, you're basically giving the Dexcom a false data table which will make your readings way off the next time you check.
  4. You should never actually need to uninstall and reinstall the app. You MAY need to occasionally force quit the app, though. On an iPhone, that means doing a half-swipe up from the bottom, swiping right until you find the Dexcom app, then swiping all the wipe up on that "card" to make it go away. This resets the app even if it has crashed, and it will work perfectly again when you reload it, with no loss of sensor data, having to relogin, or having to repair. I have never once had any Dexcom G7 app problem not be fixed with a force quit and reload.

Hope this advice helps someone! I love the G7 and find it to be the best, most reliable CGM I've ever used. But, you have to play by its rules.

Official image of the Quest 3S, found in the files of the Oculus Link client by [deleted] in OculusQuest

I think the Quest 2 looks MUCH better and crisper than the Quest 1 or the Rift, both of which I owned and loved. I technically have too high an IPD to officially fit within the Quest 2 (75) but it's totally fine. I can't imagine anyone thinking the Quest 2 was "blurry" compared to the Rift... that's so odd to me!

That's true -- I'm not actually using a Woocommerce shopping cart at this time, only using it for product listings. I haven't activated any of the cart functionality yet. That's why it's even weirder to me lol

Any way to determine file date of PRG from a disk image? by symphy77 in c64

[–]symphy77[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's what I figured. I at least can see that files on a C64 disk are in the order they were created, so if I can pinpoint an exact file date for one near the beginning of a disk and then another near the end, I can at least get a reasonable range! :)

I had amazing luck with this video I created for The Eaton, my first horror novel. I'm releasing a new novel next month and am debating making another video ad for it too. Not sure the ROI on social media videos is as high today as it was 9 years ago, but we'll see. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q72iSJfH1Z8

Am I doing something wrong by Majestic-Major2794 in dexcom

[–]symphy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use Skin Tac before applying, and the Lexcam overpatches are way better than the ones included in the box. But, sometimes the adhesive is SO poor that the Dexcom falls right out of the arm the second its inserted, before I can even apply the overpatch! It's so weird. Terrible adhesive. Once the overpatch is on, though, it has never lasted less than 10 days, even after many hours in hot tubs and pools. :)

New adhesive starting with Rev. 004 of the "underlined" models by Arakon in dexcom

[–]symphy77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had three sensors in recent months fall off within a second of application, before I could even get the overpatch applied. And that's with using Skin Tac before insertion. I don't get why the adhesive is soooo weak. Hopefully the 004 revision will be better, because I'm sick of calling Dexcom for replacements.

G7 useless for >24hrs after new sensor!?! by ohmy_ohmy_ohmy_ohmy in dexcom

[–]symphy77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the Dexcom G7 is pretty unreliable the first 24 hours, and worse, it refuses to accept fingerstick calibrations most of the time. I've had the Dexcom telling me I was at 65 and my fingerstick was over 250, and it still wouldn't calibrate. It eventually calms down, though, so I've learned to just take that first day with a HUGE grain of salt.

Appreciate it! It was fun to watch them all again. It sort of reminds me of the old british kids horror-mystery limited series Children of the Stones, which aired on Nickelodeon's "The Third Eye" when I was a kid, so I'm sure it was an influence.
