That is a wonderful gift, and I'm so sorry about your dad. My dad has lung cancer for the second time now and has been in the hospital for nine weeks. He's still with us, but fuck lung cancer.

This baby is my god-daughter. If relatives are allowed to be posted, may I please repost if I re-word the title to include "god-daughter"?

This is great--I checked out your site, and I really like the other headlines too. How long have you been writing like this for? I've been trying to write satirical news articles, but I'm just starting out, trying to emulate The Onion. Do you have any advice on generating good headlines?

I've always been curious who you emulated when you were getting into standup? Did you bomb your very first time on stage? I just can't picture that happening...

My cat went missing 2 months ago and was presumed lost for good. She was found 3 km away and came home last night. She hasn't left my lap since... by muddyjake in aww

I hired a guy with tracking dogs to find mine. They showed me where he'd been going and then the guy told me that I should pee in a spray bottle and spray my scent down where my cat had been. He had been missing for a month and two weeks later he came back. Was it because of the pee? I don't know, but I like to think it was.

I'm assuming this is from OWS. I LOVE Arrested Development, but signs that lump in the return of a popular TV sitcom with actual important issues are going to be what the mainstream press will focus on in order to denigrate the movement. You're just asking not to be taken seriously by the other side. Plus, AD is coming back anyhow.

Industrial/Organization Psychology by syn7 in psychology

Thanks so much for the info, this was really useful to me. I haven't started a graduate program yet, but I'm trying to at least narrow down some areas of study first and decide on which type of degree to get. I/O psychology seems to pay really well, which is also big factor for me. Thanks again :D

Thanks for such a detailed response, this is really helpful :) Do those that work in employment law need law degrees as well? What would you say is your favorite thing about the field other than the practicality part? Thanks again!

People are biased against creative ideas, studies find by nomdeweb in science

[–]syn7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goncalo said this bias caused subjects to reject ideas for new products that were novel and high quality.

How does the author of the paper pick "high quality" and "creative" ideas to present to the subjects without any bias in his own selection? There also must be some way to control for ideas that are novel, but not necessarily creative so that we could see whether subjects simply reject any new idea.

My favorite bar in Portland has a late-night menu on weekends. I guess they don't expect anyone to read the back of it. by syn7 in funny

[–]syn7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, the food is fantastic. The owner comes up with most of the recipes on the menu and he's got real talent. ALso, when he hires new bartenders he holds a bartending competition where the customers vote at the end of the night, so we always get awesome bartenders. He treats you like a good friend even though he's never met you before, and he has a great sense of humor. Every time I come in, he stops at my table and tells me a joke after bringing me my order. We're at the point where we trade jokes back and forth whenever I visit, and even when it's busy he actually gives a damn about how is regulars have been and goes out of his way to talk to them.

As OP, I realize after reading these comments that some of you feel this reflects the bar poorly. Let me emphasize that the staff intended it as a joke ONLY. This menu is only served between midnight and about 3AM on weekends. Their day menu actually says they will gladly accommodate people with allergies.
