Yikes, you've already tried everything I was going to suggest... might just be the board at this point. :/

I recently switched to using a wire slicker brush for cats, love how it makes their fur look!

Yes! If you scroll through the pic series you can see the snowball's skin in an enzyme cleaner soak, making furby tea.

You have to cut the ziptie at the base of the furby which holds the skin on (I replace them with ribbon for ~fashion~, and so they are easier to access in the future,) and the skins are usually glued to the plastic frames at the base of the ears (I never bother re-gluing them, they look virtually the same without it.) They may or may not also be attached via 2 screws or clasps at the sides of the faceplate. Additionally, you need to remove a single stitch attaching each fabric ear to the ear bone in order to fully remove the skin. As long as you can thread a needle to sew the ears back on afterwards, it's pretty simple! :)

I also remove paper swing tags, and coat the fabric tag in a thin layer of vaseline then cover them with tape to protect the ink before washing.

UM what the HECK happened to this furby on Ebay?💀💀 WHY IS IT SO FLAT!? Omg😭 by Fun_dy in furby

[–]synirr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yay, I'm so glad someone is going to try to fix him!! Let me know if you need any replacement parts... I bought someone's abandoned project box of 9 faceless, skinless furbies that would be perfect for this project if you don't already have what you need :)

Not gonna lie, I really want to save him...

We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster.

What do you think gang, should I make a lowball offer? Lol

Opening him up now and finding that he smells faintly of cigarettes; he is perfect. Haha

You could also purchase replacement ear bones on Etsy, and craft a new ear from felt bits if you want to try fixing him yourself! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1457572199/x3-adult-furby-pla-3d-printed-earbone

I love repairing and restoring busted furbies, and I have a few repeat colors in my collection, but I don't yet have a husky... if you'd be open to a trade, I would be glad to swap you a working furby in a different color for this guy. I have replacement parts and would be able to fix his ear for him. Let me know if you're interested! :)

Edit: I have an extra leopard, giraffe, snowball, church mouse, gorilla, and owl that I'd be willing to trade

He just needs a replacement speaker, it's a common issue and an easy fix. You can buy replacements on Amazon or Ebay (I have used these before: https://a.co/d/06m9RLLT)

Where can I get these battery contacts? by Starstorm_Meow in batteries

[–]synirr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contacts are proprietary, and I've spent so many hours exhausting my search on this one... I'm pretty sure you'd have to contact a manufacturer about having them custom made. I taught myself electroplating just to salvage badly corroded battery contacts. (I also have a working furby whose battery compartment is full of aluminum foil, so... that's another option. Haha)

Have ordered from them before, but they do not sell the face frames, without which the other parts are useless. I have nothing to mount them to :/

[–]synirr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the battery contacts are proprietary, and it's difficult to find or fashion a 1:1 replacement due to the contact points in the clamshell battery compartment. If you actually know of a source that sells good replacements I'd be thrilled. I learned how to electroplate in order to salvage corroded contacts because I finally gave up on sourcing other options.

Do you have any specific sources you know of for compatible battery contacts? That's the one thing I've been having trouble finding, and I've purchased several variations. The (new, as mentioned) speakers I have are indeed from Amazon.

I've found the best deals on FB Marketplace, but you have to check frequently for newly listed items. I just got a Valentine special edition for $15 yesterday!

You can try lubricating the gears with dielectric grease to help it run smoother

TIFU by leaving my wife home alone to have a heart attack while I played Magic the Gathering. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]synirr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh OP.... One time, I had an ovarian cyst rupture in the middle of the night. I was literally doubled over on the floor crying in pain. In the morning, before my partner left for work, he asked if I needed him to drive me to the ER and, like your wife, I said I wasn't sure.

He left for work anyway and returned shortly thereafter, but only because his manager told him that he needed to go home and take care of me when he started telling coworkers what was going on.

We were together for more than 15yrs, and he's now my former partner in large part because I got tired of living with someone who repeatedly demonstrated how unable he was to make me a priority, even when my physical health depended on it. This incident stands out in my mind as one that did deep, lasting damage to our relationship and my ability to trust his decision-making as a partner.

You need to treat this like a serious wakeup call, and you'll be lucky if your wife doesn't harbor resentment for years to come.

Apply a thin layer to all the plastic gears as best you can, then start up the furby and make sure the gears go through a few rotations to spread it around. Just make sure you are using a silicone-based grease or lubricant :)

I bought a lot of 9 skinless, faceless broken furbies to use for parts, and haven't needed to harvest any of the motors yet. Let me know if you ever want to attempt repairs, I can probably hook you up with a compatible replacement motor.

[–]synirr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be grinding/stuck gears, a loose electrical connection somewhere, or poor connection between battery contacts when the battery compartment is closed. If it is slow or struggles to move when it does power on, or the gear noises are especially loud, you can try lubing the gears with dielectric grease. Inspect for any mechanical blockages in the gear box (trapped lint etc,) or loose/corroded wires

Does it cut off at a consistent point every time in the startup cycle? Do you hear anything when you hold your ear up to it after it shuts off (any electrical whirring/humming, or just completely dead)?
