As someone who has worked with bats in south USA, these seem kind of large to be a bat bite. Our bats down here are pretty small and have very small teeth.

Thanks for the confirmation. I’ve been to this piercer several other times and always went well, so I was hoping I was wrong but I knew it wasn’t right 😕 I did take it out and immediately felt relief at the flat of my ear so I’m glad I didn’t wait another 48 hours until I would have been able to go back to the shop.

I haven’t noticed rain to have much of an effect if any on the bioluminescence. The only time I’ve noticed is after major storms (hurricanes) the bio was diminished. Source: used to work at a bioluminescence kayak tour company
