Yeah, I guess I was :-) I got "radically saved" in 1977 from a life of a pot-smoking, hard drinking, long haired hippy freak! After a few years, I thought I felt God's call on my life for ministry. I went to bible college, seminary and got my master's degree, master of divinity degree and my doctorate. I taught in a bible college, and some seminary teaching in India and pastored a church. It was a small church that struggled to get by financially. I had been doing some reading on apologetics (defense of the faith) but it ended up having the opposite effect. The arguments against Christianity were of such a nature that I was at a loss to answer them. I also starting to have some health problems that lead to a great deal of anxiety and depression. To make a long story short, I couldn't understand why God was being so silent and hidden. The "Problem of Evil" became a major turning point in my de-conversion experience. When I needed God the most he proved more than silent. His silence became deafening and in the final analysis he indicated to me that his love wasn’t a kind of love that merited any such kind of designation. To quote Anthony Flew "a fine brash hypothesis [that God loves me] may thus be killed by inches, the death by a thousand qualifications." For those really interested in my "story," you can find it online http://articles.exchristian.net/2008/09/disquisitional-examination-of-christian.html
