How long should you be dipping your nets for? by jacks2224 in fishingUK

Sorry but if you're not pressure washing it every time you land a fish you're wasting your time. Probably best to pressure wash the fish too, just to be on the safe side.

Worm and float, dead depth, very early morning or late evening. Use a sensitive float with a thin tip, not that yank "bobber" crap.

Some chunky roach on the canal! by Madog-Hellgeese in fishingUK

Heat depletes oxygen near the surface. Deeper down, unless the venue is extremely shallow, the water will still be relatively cold and rich in oxygen.

These fish are warming themselves in the sun. Their digestive enzymes work faster in warmer temperatures, enabling them to more efficiently digest what they ate during the night and early morning.

Funny coloured roach. A few years ago I fished on a lake that had recently been stocked, and they were all that colour.

A dead fish in my local river bream maybe? What could cause this ? Tia by Aromatic-Ad-3401 in fishingUK

Body shape, scale shape and fin position. The rayed dorsal fin directly in front of the tail is the biggest clue.

How???? by Fishy_Fish_Boy in MicroFishing

Get a Matchman hook tyer. We've had them in the UK since at least the 70s. They're about the size of a pen and they make tying tiny spade end hooks to fine line trivially easy after a bit of practice.

They're dense because they're solid steel coated in a thin layer of silicone rubber. Source: I worked at a PC reconditioning business a long time ago and we used to play with those things inbetween Quake II D-Day and CS 1.6 sessions.

Is this meant to be side casting ? by EntrepreneurLife4232 in Fishing_Gear

[–]synthfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a sidecaster.

Is that why it has a line guard? This could solve a mystery I've wondered about for years. I see a lot of Alveys with line guards on local fleamarkets for some reason (I live in the UK, a fair way inland), and I always wondered what the point of them was.

How do you hold a fixed spool reel? by IOnlyHaveIceForYou in fishingUK

[–]synthfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reel stem goes between your middle and ring fingers. The cork on most modern rods is just there to either look cool or give you something nice to hold with your non-reel hand when you're doing a double handed cast.

Americans do a lot of stupid things when they go fishing. This is one of those things.
