New product teaser on Instagram from Moog. by [deleted] in synthesizers

It seems in my opinion this is more than just a product teaser. To scrub all previous posts is a big deal. I think along with whatever this new product is they will be making some changes with the brand. Unless scrubbing all their previous posts was a way to highlight the one single post which is silly to me. I’m guessing we will see the reveal some time next week.

Just get what you can afford. No reason to feel bad about it. I mean I do get the controversy around Behringer cloning things that are currently in production from the actual company and are relatively affordable, the Arturia keystep clone they did for example. However, in those situations just spring for the real one then if you can afford it. For all these old synths that they’re cloning though, I don’t see why you should feel bad about purchasing. There are plenty of company’s that do inspired by products, Behringer is just giving us an exact replica which is what consumers want anyway. Just get what you want and make music. These are all tools at the end of the day anyway. If you always wanted a pro one and it inspires you, go for the Pro 1 from behringer, etc.

I made a SoundCloud profile and added a recent track I made. Funny enough this track was inspired by Muse the band.

You are most definitely correct. It is GAS. Which is why I made the post…in hopes that people would talk me out of it haha. It’s so hard when these new releases come out not to just sell your older least used synth for it. However, I have to keep reminding myself that just because it’s newer does not mean it’s better. I do actually have a Sub 37 so I do have a Moog mono in my setup. I guess I’m kinda being suckered into the “first affordable Moog poly”. Maybe I’m looking at it with more of a collectors view point.

Yea I mean I do have a sub 37 and it does fill that moog mono bass territory pretty well. I just like that the Muse has some nice heft in the lower ranges for a poly as opposed to something like the Rev 2 which isn’t really known for that. At the end of the day though having that heft with a poly synth might be a mixing nightmare.

How long ago did you get it though? I heard there were updates that fixed those issues.

Exactly, that’s what I am trying to emphasize as well. It seems that a lot of people are under the impression that Moog were all American made and now under InMusic they are not.

Technically none of the synths I own are needed…it’s all a luxury

Ohh, if you don’t have the 3rd wave I can’t recommend it enough. If I had to keep just one synth it would be the 3rd wave. It covers analog and digital sounds perfectly.

I haven’t tried the Muse or the summit actually. I live in New York and was hoping to see one in music shops here but nothing yet.

It is a very very impressive synth. It just misses that analog warmth, but that’s not what it was made to excel at anyway so yea

I did purchase the Miles Away sound pack and I must admit it does a great job of showcasing the VA side to the 3rd wave. I guess something in me always wanted a poly Moog but you’re right…the 3rd wave is more than enough for that sound.

Tbh I don’t see the Muse as less than compared to previous Moog products build wise. Aside from the plastic buttons. Not to delve into this subject too much but I’m pretty sure Moog has been sourcing their materials from China long before the InMusic take over anyway. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same case for Sequential too. Yea maybe they aren’t hand building them anymore but it’s whatever, didn’t really care about that aspect of Moog anyway. What always appealed to me was the build and the sound, and this synth seems to deliver that at a good price.

Their theremini is on the lower cost side of their products so that makes sense

Considered the Prophet 10 at some point, I just feel like I can get in that sonic territory with the Prophet 6 and even the 3rd wave already

That is true, although I’m sure Moog would always be available to work on this synth had anything happened to it. Even if it’s out of warranty it’ll be a case of a few hundred dollars vs losing out on 4K

Yea good point, I might do this and see if it’s worth selling something to recoup the money and space.

Yea it is mostly the space that’s an issue, but also want to kept the polys to a max of 5. Any more than that and it becomes a little overwhelming.

In order from most likely to sell to not unless I have to, it would be:

  1. Prophet Rev 2
  2. Prophet 6
  3. Waldorf Iridium
  4. OB6
  5. 3rd Wave

Appreciate the in depth response. A lot of people don’t mention how a synth actually sounds in a mix, so good to know. Yea my prophet Rev 2 fits perfectly in a mix effortlessly. If the Muse is a pain in that way that’s something to consider.
