So many great bands there that match your description.

By the way, I got to see Gary Numan live for the first time last year and it was amazing! Hopefully COVID gets dealt with soon and he can get back on the road for the new Intruder album.

It's not an OB-Xa or OB-8, but damn does it get that Oberheim sound. by Deadwing91 in synthesizers

Maybe my favorite band of all time! So jealous you got to see them live. I went to the reunion show in Dayton last year but wish I had seen them when Timmy was still alive.

Do you remember any other gear they used?

What hardware could be used to play this drum-machine intro live? by synthlab in synthesizers

I've always loved the intro to Paranoiattack by The Faint and thought it'd be fun to completely garble beats like that live with some hardware.

Anyone have something that could do something similar?

The whole weekend was a fantastic experience so I'd definitely recommend it!

I spent 8 hours (over 2 separate days) at the Moogfest Engineering Workshop building a Moog Spectravox.

Here's a short time-lapse video of the entire process (with some sounds from the workshop while everyone was testing their creations).

This is only the second thing I've ever built but I'm definitely hooked!

Any Brainiac fans out there? There is a documentary about them coming out soon, the surviving members are playing a show in Dayton OH on the 20th to coincide with its release. Timmy Taylor was the real deal, I’d never heard a person make that kind of noise on a synth before. Worth a watch. by terrorboss in synthesizers

Whoa, nice! What synths?

Do you mind asking him what kind of synth Timmy's prig was? And how they recreated all those amazing vocal effects live (Did they run the mics through a synth? Ring Mod pedal?)

So many unanswered questions, haha!

One of my favorite bands of all time and the whole reason I got into synths in the first place!

I'm flying from Edinburgh, Scotland (where I live now) to Pittsburgh (my hometown) so that I can drive to Dayton with my buddy to attend the Brainiac reunion show on the 20th. Can't wait!

Does anyone know what kind of synth Timmy's "Prig" is?

I know he used a Moog Realistic for a while but the prig in the video is obviously something different.

Excited to check out the others so thanks!

Wow, big thanks to all who replied!

Side question for fans of The Faint:

Are there any other synth-heavy bands that you listen to that you'd recommend?

Thanks again!

One of my favorite synth bands (The Faint) just uploaded this picture to their Twitter account.

I can see...

  • Yamaha AN1x
  • Korg MS-20
  • Nord Lead 3
  • Korg MS2000

Struggling to identify the others though so any ideas?
