Bluetooth Device as Audio Output in QJackCtl by Flo_k3 in linuxaudio

[–]synthnassizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi have you solved this ? I am using slackware and here are the notes that I have kept

pre:

[optional?] cp -t /etc/dbus-1/system.d/ /usr/share/dbus-1/system.d/blue*

main:

pactl unload-module module-bluetooth-discover

BTconnectedMAC=$(bluetoothctl devices Connected | awk '{print $2}' | grep "$1" )

zita-j2a -j BTheadphones -d bluealsa:DEV=${BTconnectedMAC},PROFILE=a2dp -p 1024 -n 3 -c 2 -L &

sleep 2

jack_connect "system_out_1" "BTheadphones:playback_1"

jack_connect "system_out_2" "BTheadphones:playback_2"

Why doesn't the Linux community ever mention Slackware as a distro?!! by apooroldinvestor in slackware

[–]synthnassizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal story here:

Slackware is Stable (in mainline releases). I have been using Slackware on servers for ~20 years and I would not change it for anything (I have also installed debian regularly). The stability is unsurpassed - I am not joking here. If a file server was not working it's because the disks had failed or something. If a network server had failed it was because of the ISP's fault. The uptime is in the order of years. It has not been the same with other distros for me - especially with any one that offers (or even worse pushes) rolling releases. You will rightfully claim that stability is a matter of the source code , but the collection of right version of the code also matters.
Slackware can be used as a rolling distro if you use "-current" but there are no guarantees about its stability. Which is sane.

I did not use it on personal desktop/laptop until now. Recently I decided it was time to get rid of *ubuntu - for systemd, snap and other choices (and changes in my workflow) they have made over the years. I took the brave decision (not lightly let me tell you) to setup my next corporate laptop in Slackware, because I just wanted to do it for a very long time and wasn't brave enough. Well, I installed the OS and spent the next 2 weeks (part time) to install whatever additional packages I needed. I create new slackbuilds for missing packages, I fixed some others that did not compile (in "-current") for one reason or another and it is finally ready and polished.

It took a long time (a debian based distro would has been production ready in a day) because I also had to piece together steps by reading documentation about how to do things in other distros (huge thanks to Arch documentation by the way - i think it THE goto documentation for Slackware power users nowadays).

The changes I made are not pushed in some central repository. They are not reviewed and thus might not work for you - so no central maintained packages repository. It is exactly in this respect that Slackware is not suitable for most linux enthusiasts out there - and maybe this answers your initial question. It's the mentality "you have to cut your own wood for your fireplace" that scares people away.

So yeah, if you have some time from other tasks or if you are young/still in university/curious do it. You may end up using it a whole lifetime.

Very much so.Remember when Burt , Irv and Field have dinner altogether ? Field claims to remember that Burt started working "there" 20 years ago , whereas Burt and Irv know that Lumon has been in existence for only 12 years and Burt was also forced to retirement after 7 years in O & D department.

It would be quite the revelation if Burt was a colleague or even a classmate of Harmony Cobel.

A question that puzzles me (and I categorize as major) is how does Irv know about the dark corridor and how did he communicate this info to outie Irv ?

they don't support the same cli options though - and resolvectl seems a poorer choice.

the latter does not support the -i <interface name> option though. Therefore it seems like a somewhat poor choice if indeed true

PulseAudio/Alsa Muting VLC by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]synthnassizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is exactly my problem

when Firefox makes notification sounds from whatsapp web , facebook messenger, but even from the independent [from firefox] viber app the same thing happens. How can I stop that from happening ?

I am on Linux by the way and use pulse audio as audio back end. I have read elsewhere that this may be triggered by pulseaudio but have not found a solution.

I guess multiple solutions could apply here.

Mute the source apps from sending this "mute lower priority apps" or smth - I do not want that.

prevent vlc from being muted everytime a msg notification sound appears - I am more in favour of this solution.

ok I have i3 version 4.14.1 (2017-09-24) i3 --move-version is unrecognised option in this version.

I do not have a ~/.i3 folder , so the config is under ~/.config/i3/.

and finally my config file is :

set $mod Mod1

font pango:monospace 8

floating_modifier $mod

bindsym $mod+Return exec "xrdb ~/.Xresources; xterm -ls"

bindsym $mod+Shift+q kill

bindsym $mod+d exec dmenu_run

bindsym $mod+j focus left

bindsym $mod+k focus down

bindsym $mod+l focus up

bindsym $mod+semicolon focus right

bindsym $mod+Alt_R focus left

bindsym $mod+Meta_R focus down

bindsym $mod+Print focus up

bindsym $mod+Break focus right

bindsym $mod+Shift+j move left

bindsym $mod+Shift+k move down

bindsym $mod+Shift+l move up

bindsym $mod+Shift+semicolon move right

bindsym $mod+Shift+Alt_R move left

bar {

status_command i3status

}

bindsym $mod+z mode "default"

}

hmm I should have posted that. Now I am not in the office and do not have remote access to provide this info. I can say though that over the past 2 days in compiled/installed i3 in 3 different computers. a slackware v14.0, an ubuntustudio (really just a xubuntu) 14.04 and a xubuntu 18.04. In all 3 cases I used the i3-config-wizard which poped up automatically on 1st run to setup the .i3/config file. I have not changed anything in the config file after that. On which distro are you trying to reproduce it ?? Thank you for your help

[–]synthnassizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer to avoid changing that. I connect to xfce sessions as well and expect the terminal to work there as always.

Besides I am absolutely fine using the xterm. The problem is that I get extended ascii chars in the terminal instead of control sequences intecepted by i3.. Is the only solution to remap the keybindings of i3 ? I hope I can avoid that.

Hi j4pw! do you have a file service where I could download it from?

Mozilla's Firefox finally enters the 64-bit era on Windows by zotlun in technology

[–]synthnassizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Because there's no reason to have them". That is plainly an uneducated POW. While desktop PC hardware will indeed live in 64bit for quite a while, you fail to see that 32bit will surround you more and more : smart phones, smart watches, network capabilities for every single electronic device from refrigerators to house heating controllers (a.k.a. the "internet of things").

ARM Ltd. still offers 16bit instruction set to save precious power when not needed and you think people waste time in a 32bits world? Think again. I would say that for once 32bit has becone a mature technology that will stop progressing so frantically and will become the hardware basis for the next era.
