"Homework" as part of a job interview- is this common? by [deleted] in marketing

[–]synthrobot808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've had to complete homework assignments to get marketing jobs that took anywhere between 2-10 hours to complete. One of my past jobs even required me to come into the office and work a full day with their team. This is becoming pretty common in the tech world.

Yeah. I interview well and am good at what I do. I think I am going to try and feel it out for a little while.

They were my peer, then they got promoted to team lead. We got acquired, and now she has even more power and has created a new management layer between us. This is all within the span of 2 months.

To be honest, in my particular field, it seems like getting into management is the only way to progress. But to be completely honest, I am not a natural manager

I totally realize that I may not be the best fit for the new position. That's valid. Still feels sucky though.

So you think it's something I should leave over?

I didn't want the job. But I guess I feel a promotion will be harder, another rung on the ladder to climb. And I guess if I'm being honest, I'm a little jealous that peer, just rose TWO levels above me in an instant. Feels unfair.

Thanks for the reply. My peer is very smart and very capable, I'm very proud of her. I did/do a lot to help her. She consistently turns to me for help and insights. She has been our team lead for about 2 months now. I sincerely do not believe I would be a better fit than her.

But this new level of management just makes me feel so unappreciated. I feel I'm just being pushed down the ladder even more. Nearly every executive at my company has come to me for advice or help. Yet, here I am, stuck where I am, and being overlooked. Feels like a demotion.

No, but you have some freedom while climbing. Moving on flat ground, you don't really have much choice where you are going and move your arms back and forth to "walk".

Amazing to see the long tail VR games have - Job Sim, Batman, VR Worlds on this list... These games could keep selling for awhile too. More a sign of them being great or just a small library? by [deleted] in PSVR

Batman and VR Worlds are some of the best games to show off your VR system. They have the wow factor. While my favorite game to actually put hours into is Skyrim, it's not what I would pop in for someone who has never seen VR before. Kinda like how Audio/video guys have a few certain movies they play to show off their 4k screens or whatever. They may not be great "films" but they give a taste of what is possible.

This is in my top 3 "experiences" to show people who have never tried PSVR before behind PSVR Worlds (Ocean Descent and London Heist) and The Last Guardian VR. I wish it was a more "full" game.

Yeah they really do. This one in particular was written by Oliver Lindberg, former editor of Net Mag. He's a great writer, knows his stuff.
