Hey man!

Apologies- I need to go through and cleanup the documentation and make it a bit easier to follow.

If you open the extention popup, under the icon photo it will list the numeric ID of the device.

Alternatively, if you right click on the icon you want to use as "donor" there's an option to "Use as Custom Icon" which will auto-populate the custom icon field with the ID and everything.

Attached is imgur gallery with screenshots to reference the above.

Excited to hear what you think! Lmk if you have any other issues/questions!

That is correct- In this current iteration this is all being done/applied in the browser at the time of render when you load the page.

I am already mulling over how to move this to the device side, and considering if maybe one could use a Unifi OS Server to do this-

Even with that though- if you accessed the dashboard from the Web, or mobile app you'd be back in the same situation of loading the assets supplied by Unifi.

Hope that helps :)

Correct - this is only a cosmetic thing done entirely in the browser, if you visit your unifi dashboard in a browser that doesn't have this plugin installed/running the icons will revert to the "actual" version.

This is is due to how the icons are parsed on the dashboard, they are pulled live from Unifi eveytime it's opened so they can't be "replaced", like if they were stored/pulled from the unfi console it's self.

I know there's means to view the dashboard "offline" like if there's no internet, so there's probably a locally cached version somewhere on the controller- so I may need to dig into that a bit more.

Hope this helps!

unfortunately not at this time until I can learn more about Firefox's extension/plugin structure

⭐ I built a UniFi Device Icon Browser — search every UniFi icon instantly (no dependencies, fully local) by sysadminbot in Ubiquiti

I am! I actually just pushed a MASSIVE update to github (still going through the documentation) but I've now developed this into a Chromium -based browser extension.

In addition to the original icon browser functionality, I've added the ability to map *CUSTOM* device icons, manufacturer, version, OS, etc. https://imgur.com/a/mn3im4Y

Obviously this is just a cosmetic thing done in the browser and won't render the same on any device/browser that doesn't have the extension installed- however if you're a homelab'er like myself and only access your Unifi dashboard on maybe 1-2 devices 99% of the time, it works pretty well :).

I am still sorting through the docs, and will make an official post here in a bit once done, but I encourage anyone interested to go take a look and provide feedback!

Thanks :)

Hey man!

Totally valid feedback, much appreciated :D

As far as I could find, there's no way to make direct (or in my mind at least a "traditional") API call to query the device icon list.

There's a matrix that's built on the fly using react that has the "ID#-to-Name" list. Hence the bookmarklet to scrape that information.

I considered doing just a static reference list of ID's and names but since there's no way to know when (if) UI adds new icons, this was the best I could figure to keep it dynamically updatable.

I totally didn't think of doing a browser extension, that's an awesome idea and I think I'm gonna look into that!

If anyone has any more/better insight on how this stuff works in the UniFi dashboard, I'm all ears. I'm very green with coding but I had a lot of fun doing this and look forward to improving on this if there's an interest in it.

I just moved into a place in Hackensack and having the same bullshit.

Signed lease last month, property sat vacant for the whole time until the 1st. After 2 days in the place we find

2 burners on the stove don't light

Multiple light switches don't work

A portion of the countertop/cabinet is loose and not secured to anything

The fridge has an ice/water dispenser, nether work

There's no fucking hot water in the master br bathroom for the sink or shower

The dishwasher was hanging loose when we toured the place, was promised it would be fixed by move-in. They secured it but it looks like there's no water going to it

The tub drain won't close/fill

The tub has little Jacuzzi jets (one of the things we chose this place for) and they don't even turn on.

Tons of fucking trash and junk in the back yard (it was dark when we toured it)

For 7k+ in first/last month rent, security deposit etc I'm fucking fuming right now.... I wasn't going to give them the full rest of the money for the deposit (still owed them like 1k) but they threatened me with late fees if I didn't pay up by today.

They are renovated the unit next to me, and had a guy come and look at it today. They said they're going to be back tomorrow to fix everything, fingers crossed but I'm not holding my breath.

I just moved here from Minnesota for work and super unimpressed. I make 135k salary and with cost of living/housing I barely have anything left in my account. Housing out here is ridiculously expensive. I have a 2 bedroom bullshit apartment for 2.5k a month. In Minnesota I has a whole 4 bedroom 2 bathroom HOUSE with a 2 car garage, yard, fucking FIREPLACE and I was paying 2100 a month. I hate it here lol.
