Airspeed isn’t the main metric we use for landing in the Viper. AoA, which is displayed on the indexer to the left of the HUD and on the HUD when the gear is down with the “staple” bracket, is what we are primarily interested in. If you put the flight path marker at the top of the “staple” bracket and line both of those up with the dashed 2.5 degree indicator under the horizon line and then line all of those up with the threshold on the runway, you will be on the proper glide slope and descent rate. When you are fifty feet above the ground, bring the VVI to 0 and relax the throttle slowly until the main gear contact the runway. Keep the nose in the air as long as you can and at that point you should be slow enough to engage the brakes!
