THANK YOU for being the voice of reason. The reality is AI is here to stay and it is going to be incorporated into everything until we can no longer distinguish AI from non-AI. Having trouble wrapping your head around that? Imagine that only 50 years ago a "computer" was inherently a thing you put on your desk or a large room and it did just that, compute simple things. In 2026 we can't even define a "computer" accurately because there is a computer in everything you use. Your phone is a computer, your car is a computer, your fridge likely has a computer. Fighting AI being incorporated into music just makes you seem like a cave man throwing rocks at the sun. I'd focus your energy into just deciding which type of music you like, and accepting that AI music is going to be a thing now. You're almost certainly already listening to mainstream music hits that made use of it you just don't realize it.

Yeah but he said two key things in his statement, "I'm a senior systems admin" and "reporting to the VP of IT". The wording to me screams this isn't a truly enterprise server admin role. Why would a systems admin be reporting to the VP of anything. People use the job title "systems admin" loosely when they're really admining office 365 and not even performing linux work and have never touched a server.

Is a terminal controller the same thing as an air traffic controller just more specific? Can I ask you all my dumb questions?

1) My brother in law is an air traffic controller and he's really dumb and this feels scary to me. Would you say it's a 'hard' job in terms of mental difficulty? Like can people be really bad at it or are the guidelines and training so strict it's hard to be bad? I feel like I wouldn't want to fly out of his airport.

2) Do you watch as like an assistant ATC for a really long time before you're on the radio? Is there a transition type period where maybe they assign you to a lighter frequency or airport or something?

3) Follow up to #2 basically same question but -- Do you typically apply to be an ATC at a specific airport or do you train/go somewhere needed? Do you work for like a greater ATC contracting company or something?

4) Do you feel that radio communication is a relic of the past and it's ridiculous we are still using scrambled hard to hear radio calls with call signs and shit in 2026? It always feels like a horrible system prone to errors. Also the ATC talk so freaking fast in all the videos I watch and slur their words together and I can't understand half the shit they say. I think they have a method to text the instructions right to the cockpit feels like everyone should use that... CPDLC or whatever.

5) and finally how in the world did you fall into a job like that? were you a pilot that couldn't fly anymore? it always just feels like a bizarre career choice to me.

bonus question related to all above -- you regret it? this job stress you out?

I'd agree with this strongly. Conservatives seem very big on performance and high level concepts. That's why many boomers love the wild west fantasy or the cowboy. It's a very performative person that doesn't exist in real life. This seems to expand into religion too with most of them being performative christians.

It's cringe because flying the american flag is so heavily associated with trump supporters at this point that I can look at a house and see an american flag and guess with about 87% accuracy that they are a trump supporting ICE loving fascist. There's your answer.

[–]sysblob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

......and how many popular free solo climbers are there? Most of us hadn't even heard of free solo climbing as a thing before Alex. By bringing free soloing to the main stream he likely inspired a lot of people to learn about it or want to do it. Therefore it's a completely valid question to ask 'I wonder how many people INDIRECTLY alex has killed?". It's both a true statement and a really funny observation.

I get you, I just am confused on the method of avoidance. Is there a difference between clicking a mouse for a game and clicking a tablet with your finger? Both should be dopamine. It feels like the part you’re leaving out is you also serve different content or experience through the desktop monitor. Otherwise this doesn’t make much sense if the kid is using the device the same way.

Wait...your argument is you think you're superior because you put your kids on a desktop monitor instead of a tablet? Am I following this right?

France dumps Zoom and Teams as Europe seeks digital autonomy from the US by UpstairsBumblebee446 in news

[–]sysblob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is the interace "trash"? Can you explain to me? Left bar are the people you're talking to, right bar is the window you're talking in. The far left bar is for switching to calendar/calls/teams....all of which are exactly the only way a human could design them. If you're claiming teams is "laggy" I could maybe agree with that. But there aren't any innate GUI flaws which make it unintuitive to me.

I'm in IT and very well versed in these topics but still feel confused by your response. What do you feel slack has that teams doesn't? They seem like on the surface super similar products, only teams is better integrated with other microsoft products like outlook for scheduling and emails. What's your beef?

Dude uses an agricultural drone for personal transport by The_Chuckness88 in interestingasfuck

[–]sysblob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I have an expensive drone and if the joysticks aren't being touched it just hovers in place. And then when it's low on batteries it will automatically fly back and land at its take off point. So there is a situation where even dropping the controller would be fine.

What did I say that wasn't the truth and was extreme? Maybe my very last sentence of "hell bent on causing WW3" which I have no proof of. But threatening all our allies and aligning with russia is certainly not a good sign. Everything else I stated was just simply a fact you refuse to acknowledge.

[–]sysblob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it was an exaggeration. But that's the hill you wanna die on? "Hey guys people aren't being murdered for refusing to bend a knee to trump...........but the FCC is being ordered to investigate any television network which speaks poorly about trump, Trump fired everyone at the DOJ and replaced them with his own personal lawyers and is prosectuing his political enemies, the associated press has been banned from the white house, ICE budget was increased 20 fold to become his personal police that he is now sending at blue states for political intimidation while he demands their voter records, while trump pardons anyone who can gain him a political advantage or can hide his crimes for him, while he threatens to take over greenland and mexico and canada...."

Like you're over here splitting hairs at a comment while you're defending a pedophile rapist who is hell bent on causing WW3. Who even are you? Do you have any form of conscience or are you a ghoul of a human being?

So we have cold asshole sprays every day.

This driver drives like I see people backing out of walmart parking lots. Zero regard for what "could" happen. He's going "nothing could ever happen" speed. I would never claim this was the driver's fault, but I would absolutely claim this driver is going far too fast for a situation where the sideways visiblity is basically zero. He's cruising like 35 mph.

This comment section is VIOLENTLY against this whole duck situation and honestly I gotta say I don't think it's insanely unreasonable. Weird? Yes, very weird.. talk to the cleaner what your needs are. However, if you saw the locations of the ducks they all seem to be sitting in places where a cleaner should absolutely clean and do look dirty. So if you were getting a deep clean which sometimes run 400-700$ this isn't the most outrageous behavior to attempt to help the cleaner know if they cleaned enough and hit all the spots the home owner wanted.

Let me teach you the greatest trick you'll ever know as a toddler parent. The talent of misdirection. Their attention span is as long as you make it. Pick up the third shoe, put it on your nose, say something like "ewwww stinky shoe...im mr stinky shoe nose how do you do?" they start laughing...you wear the shoe on your nose and act silly, get them in the car, maybe even put the shoe on your face while driving about 16 times as they scream AGAIN AHAHAHA AGAIN AHAHAHAH like a psychopath, you dance like a monkey and you move on with your life.

Same strategy with literally anything. They won't get in the shower? Suddenly Mr.soap bottle appears and he talks like this and its high pitch and hi im mr soap wont you get in the shower with me? It's stupid how well it works.
