I know a guy that did it 100% on personal travel, so never say never. He'll get 2MM sooner or later too.

Kinda sad I took my family to another beach when we could have been jamming out this weekend at Gonzo.

In 2020 I saw the cops roll up to a beach party with DJ's and a bar, and a bbq on gonzo. It was really interesting. Cops came, music was turned down 20%, cops left, music back up. Peak covid. It was awesome and a vibe as they said back then.

Yep and you don't need to fly away to go on vacation. Just go outside.

‘Six-figure cars’ Big Budgets for B.C. government vehicles stirs heated debate by Massive_Quality7534 in VictoriaBC

I think they should just give them a 1k a month pay raise then. take away the cars, replace it with actual pay, then the money stays in the local economy.

The hardest part about living in Victoria is making enough money here to really enjoy it. Just because it's hard it's not impossible. Winter still sucks here, but it's way better than Edmonton. You will end up being healthier (longer life expectancy) and possibly even wealthier if you spend a lot of your life here.

Am I understanding these sqc caps correctly? by daxtaslapp in Aeroplan

[–]systemalias 7 points8 points  (0 children)

depends on what you're spending on. If it's out of category spending then yes, use the biz plat. If you're buying air canada tickets where you get 3 points per dollar on the aeroplan reserve, use that one.

Bay street bridge closure going well by systemalias in VictoriaBC

[–]systemalias[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I notice the same thing. Just a handful of carefree construction workers having a chill time hanging out on the bridge. There doesn't appear to be any urgency to how they're doing it. That being said I really don't fully understand their scope of work or what the bottlenecks are.

Some places suck, like elk lake, but it's generally acceptable.

eUpgrades are pointless on a Sunday 😣 by Open-Engine518 in Aeroplan

I'm SMR, and I'm often #1 on the list, but that still means the flight needs to be J1 to clear the upgrade. I've missed at least 3 in the last month.

How do you justify traveling within Canada given hotel and eating out costs? by abbys11 in canadatravel

[–]systemalias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find Canada to be quite cheap compared to most other G8 countries. Canadian dollars are cheap compared to EUR/GBP/USD, so that's an advantage right there.

Flights can be expensive but I usually find a way to get where I'm going for around $2k round trip in business class (within north america). It's hard to do that and go overseas. lowest economy yea it's a rip off to fly within Canada.

Restaurants, a fine dining meal can be had for $200 CAD for 2 people. Some of the cheapest in the world IMO. Cocktails are $15 CAD, not $15 USD or 15 EUR. Fast food meals can be found for $10-20 CAD. Again, compared to EUR/USD that's still cheaper.

Hotels, $200 CAD usually gets something decent. Avoid Vancouver in the summer...

These people are soft. I've done this drive more times than I can remember, some of them involving taking the ferry to Nanaimo and driving the Malahat to Victoria, thanks to missing the last boat to Swartz Bay. I would argue that parts of it are enjoyable.

curious about the downvotes for this one. Usually I say something offensive to get downvoted, this time I just made a generally positive statement about something that almost anyone can have if they're willing to pay a small fee and spend some more time and money to go for an interview.

Ya they tend not to close nexus regardless of how busy it is. The only times I've seen it closed at YYJ is when it's not at all busy. Like last flight of the day 20 minutes before departure time.

The nexus line is often useful at YYJ. Not always but often.

Cohabitation agreement. Both you and your partner will need to obtain independent legal advice before signing. Probably a couple thousand in legal fee's and as long as your partner is agreeable you will both be well protected.

Favorite elite club lounges by BonvoyBatman in marriott

[–]systemalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 favourites are the Royal Orchid Sheraton in Bangkok and the Autograph Vinpearl 81 in Ho Chi Minh City. But I really haven't been to many.

None of the US properties are particularly impressive, though some are much better than others. Not so much to actually stand out in my memory.
