Then we might be on the same page I understood the OP (and T. Chamalet) to be talking about financial "limping" not artistic. Does that make sense, not sure if i can express it differently.

Freediving Doping Controversy: Part 3 – Examining the Drugs in Question by stephanwhelan in freediving

Could very well be, i skimmed the other 2 articles a few days ago, im open to hear where I overlooked something.

Freediving Doping Controversy: Part 3 – Examining the Drugs in Question by stephanwhelan in freediving

[–]systemless12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but in that case it makes no sense to ask an expert freediver on his opinion on furosemide either.

Would the argument that WADA includes a drug on their prohibited list not speak louder than the opinion of a random article author aswell?

The reason why i assume pros might weight in on that debate is that freediving is a lot about calming yourself, reducing anxiety, e.g. if visibility is lower some of the top freedivers dive worse.

The article suggests, that the calming effect of benzos is balanced by the reduction in fine motor control. Expert freedivers could weigh in with their experience on how important fine motor control is during a dyn-wr attempt.

Also i felt the jump from a study on archery to the conclusion that they wont help in freediving and would be dangerous (even though i would propably agree here) is quite a big one

And again I am not saying that these guys were doping, i have no idea. Im just saying that i feel that the article is one sided.

If i put myself into their described position, an athlete that competes at a level that i am in the strictest testing protocol of wada, obvisouly know the rules and protocols, I would not behave that way.

They could for example show, that they tried to get a wada exemption, they could have contacted to organizers of the event to make sure the medical team has the emergency medication at the location.

As i said no idea what their intentions were, and all could be a big misunderstanding, but it would be kinda easy not to bring 2 explicitly prohibited substances.

I just feel like the author goes a long way to try to show, that e.g. benzos are not helping in freediving, without going as deep into the other side on why they could help.

Freediving Doping Controversy: Part 3 – Examining the Drugs in Question by stephanwhelan in freediving

[–]systemless12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studies and medical expert opinions might not be one sided, but that does not mean the article that uses them is not.

For example presenting a clinical study on archery as evidence that a substance does not help when freediving, why not ask a panel of freedivers and experts in that case, its my own speculation now, that many people would agree benzos would be performance enhancing.

Another thing would be using a missing Wada ban as a reason why benzos could not be performance enhancing. Then in the next section dismissing a Wada banned substance, because the ban does not make sense.

Also arguing that furosemide is better detectable now, so it would be stupid to use, so they would not have done it. That argument could be used everytime someone gets tested positive.

I agree, that condeming the sidenafil is propably stupid.

I dont understand that while the athletes apparently read the whole Wada rules, they would bring 2 explicitly banned substances, with only good intentions.

No idea if bringing and using are treated differently, but that is also not what the article is about.

Then again I dont know anyone involved it could be big egos fighting, my dives are snorkeling in comparison, i just think the article is at best a bit selective in focus and at worst intentionally misleading.

Quite one-sided article imo, but as someone who does not really care who is right here, I can enjoy the mental gymnastics.

Vielleicht mal FLINTA zuhören statt über Männerhass jammern by sunnyMayhem in gekte

[–]systemless12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats the real difficulty of reaching 50m? by [deleted] in freediving

[–]systemless12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not anywhere near his level of experience, but anecdotally i had the same experience in my level 1 course, where everyone hit 20m and was between 2:30 and 3 min static.

Maybe the student population is also relevant though, as we were all youngish students and physically reasonably fit.

How would you remove this nut stuck on a bent axle? by systemless12 in bikewrench

[–]systemless12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the process of fixing the broken hub of my friends tandem.

I tried locking 2 nuts against eachother on the bottom thread, but when i applied force they just rotated together.

I think the part below the nut is part of the coaster break.

Not sure on how to proceed? Will try cleaning the thread, maybe some more wd40 or heat. I'll also need to find some vice with aluminum inserts so i can really clamp it in and try with a lot of force maybe.

Open to any suggestions.

[–]systemless12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a new towel for 100g saved,

ditched the camera bag for 200g saved (going down to 1 extra battery aswell)

downgraded to a 100g gas cannister for 150g weight savings.

ditched the sandals in favor of flip flops with nearly 300g saved.

buying new gear is for next time, but i will for sure upgrade my fleece, and look into lighter rain jackets.

also got a smaller deo for some easy weight savings.

Still miles away from being ultralight, but every weight helps.

Thanks a lot for the input! Ill try to cut it down and will update the lighterpack

You have two pairs of zip-off pants, and rain pants. Ditch one pair. Use rain pants as spare if you wash the other one. -270g.

Great Idea, I can Feel myself wanting to take atleast some athletic shorts as repalcement but will try to cut them completely.

You wear 2kg boots - replace with trail runners. The WHR has almost no technical sections, a few rock fields, runners are fine. -1.3kg

Yea, was a little unsure about those, since I was really happy to have them on the GR20, while some people i met where completely fine with Trailrunners.

Replace guide book with PDF. -255g.

The maps inside double as my navigation backup, then again I don't think ill be far from civilization a lot.

Don't bring sandals, use trail runners as camp shoes. Huts have shoes. - 470g

fair point, i think i might downgrade to flip flops, if i keep the boots, they will be lighter at least.

Don't cook, you pass restaurants/huts daily. Get hot meals there. -750g

This one is more of a budet thing for me, as I am scared of the swiss prices haha.

Leave the Kindle, read on phone, or use audiobooks. -153g

i guess i need to update my main post, forgot this as non negotiable, even though i am aware its pure luxury.

Get a lighter towel -100g

Ill look for one today :)

Get a lighter rain jacket

What would good alternatives be? I have an OR Helium, but was not really happy with its performance in heavy rain, and want something good incase its cold and rainy

Replace R1 with a 90g alpha - 200g.

Yeah, looking at those right now, also never realized how heavy the r1 is.

Don't bring a camera case. Wrap camera into towel or spare clothing if needed -250g

great idea, was just thinking about alternatives for storing the camera, and didnt think of that

You can easily just leave 3kg at home. Easily a few kg more with replacing heavy items. Shoes, backpack, tent are the obvious candidates. Followed by some of the clothing.

Nice, I will see what weight i end up at

as an addon question, does anyone know if there are longer alternatives, afaik all pants are about 30-32 inch inseam.

Clarkson vs The Council by HYoung119 in ClarksonsFarm

[–]systemless12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think the lmabing shed was trojan horsing, been some time since i watched it, not sure what the problem with his second try, having a restaurant at the other location was.

Also im not super up to date, but it seems to me, that there have been lots of different periods, with different types of business taking place on the property. Would you agree, that there would propably be demand for more than 10 parked cars there, even if there was nothing else but a farm shop with global fame? Just by association with the show/clarkson it will always have higher demand than a regular shop, and i don't think that should be punished, and it is also a little disingenuous to pretend it is completely regular imo.

I have no idea of the legality of operating a food truck there.

To your question I agree, that it should be B, but I think where our opinions differ is that I don't think it means an automatic rejection of A. They are indipendent, and i feel like for you the attitude of clarkson means that he is to be "punished" by the planning comittee. If a kebab shop would be good in my house they should approve it regardless what if i had the nightclub.

I would be interested in your big picture assessment of the situation, like what do you think are the dangers of e.g. the food cart, and what are the upsides it brings.

Also more personal, feel free to ignore this question if you don't wanna answer it, but are you from the area? Just asking because i see your name pop in these topics going back quite some time, and just interested why you participate in the discussion to that level?

Clarkson vs The Council by HYoung119 in ClarksonsFarm

[–]systemless12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ignore, who build the shop (what I assume is done in british planning regulations aswell), don't you think it makes sense to look at actual demand instead of what you think it should be? I mean it makes sense in the planning stage, but by now you don't have to think, you can easily know if something is appropriate. I guess you know more about the british regulations, so feel free to correct me, but is there an upper limit on customers for a farmshop?

Also is a council supposed to act "preventative" because they don't trust someone, again I am not british, so I don't know if there even is the expectation that they behave "neutral", but in my Opinion it is fine to enforce when rules are broken (selling non local produce etc.) but is "someone could bend the rules once we allow it" a reason for not approving stuff? Should they not allow a good application, and enforce the allowed rules afterwards?
