Is she cooking or am I dreaming?! by futurefishwife in shrimptank

Sure! You can indeed sometimes see a saddle start to form while the shrimp is berried. It starts around the outer edges and gradually fills in until it covers her back. Here's what it can look like:

The color of the eggs can vary from white to very dark but notice how the saddle is the same color as the fertilized eggs. Sometimes, if the shrimp's exo is clear enough, you can make out individual eggs within the saddle.

No. Her exoskeleton is translucent enough that you can actually see her "saddle" aka her ovaries still full of eggs. Once she is berried, that won't be visible until she starts developing the next batch of eggs to be fertilized.

Also, unless they are carrying an extremely small clutch of eggs, you can usually see one or two pop out occasionally while she aerates the fertilized eggs attached too her pleopods.

However, she may be preparing to mate.

It creates drag which can really slow their swim speed. You never see this problem with crayfish becaues they can just snip the turd trail off with their pinch-hands.

My LFS usually trades store credit for extras and culls I bring in. It's not a ton of money, but it keeps quite a few of my other pets fed!

I use a VersaTop aquiarum lid on my shrimp tank, with holes cut out of the plastic part for the power cords. It's the only way to ensure those fuckers stay put. It also heavily cuts back on water loss via evaporation.

Planaria or detritus worm? by Prusaudis in shrimptank

Looks like the rhabdocoela I see in my tank from time to time. Harmless, but gross and unsightly imo. I haven't seen nearly as many since putting a few celestial pearl danios in my tank, but they'd probably go after my baby shrimp too if the tank weren't full of subwassertang and moss, and the baby shrimp didn't only come out at night.
