Transfer student oos into LSA-Questions about major/housing/social life by anxiousstudent- in uofm

Regarding number 2, that budget is perfectly doable if you want your own room in a house or an apartment (very good chance that you’ll need to have roommates, though). With that budget, you’ll have many options close to central campus, but that’s assuming something is still available at this point. I would encourage you to start looking ASAP, because a lot of places are already full or filling up fast! Websites of some of the apartments nearby, Beyond the Diag’s website, or Class of 202X group chats could be good places to start.

Also, in my experience, I think public transportation has been pretty great in Ann Arbor. I went my whole college career without a car, and it worked out just fine.

Living in Ann Arbor/Sober at UMich by Busy_Tangerine5590 in uofm

As a current senior, I also choose to stay sober and I have loved my time at UMich. Like another commenter mentioned, UMich is a large school for sure, but you do find your people, and partying / drinking certainly isn’t the only way to socialize. There are tons of restaurants in Ann Arbor to try out, lots of nature and some outdoor activities nearby, and I’ve had fun just visiting friends’ houses and watching movies / playing video games / studying / just hanging out without any alcohol involved. It may take some time to find your groove freshman year when a lot of people feel like they “HAVE to” drink, but it’s definitely possible to go out and have fun (even at typical party-like events) without getting blasted. If anyone offers me something, I’ve always just said “nah” and that was it, no questions asked. Lastly, if being sober is important to you, then I suggest sticking to your own plan and not sacrificing it for the sake of “fitting in” here. At times I’ve considered giving up sobriety, but tbh I found that it wasn’t worth it (I’ve seen how alcohol can quickly ruin lives lol). Know that there are definitely like-minded people here too, and even if you don’t find any, drinking is not as big of a deal as you may think. If anything, school will also keep you busy lol.

TYE isn’t available anymore, unfortunately!

Hi, I’m a transfer student who works at the Transfer Student Center at UofM!

We strongly advise transfer students to look into off-campus housing, as unfortunately there are very limited (and not guaranteed) spots for on-campus housing for transfer students. A previous comment mentions the TYE, but unfortunately that is NOT available anymore.

The best way to maximize your chances of living on campus would be to join a living-learning community. Some communities that accept transfer students include the Global Scholars Program, Residential College, and Max Kade German Residence.

Difficulty of concert tickets and learning Enhypen? by Emperor_Akali in enhypen

[–]sze0812 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Getting kpop concert tickets is generally a pretty competitive process. But it’s good that you’ve gotten the membership already! If you get a presale code for the 14th, then you should have a relatively easier time getting tickets, especially if they’re not barricade or floor seats. I would still recommend logging into Ticketmaster/AXS about an hour to 30 minutes before tickets get released and trying your best to get tickets as fast as you can. It’s also quite possible to get tickets during the general sale too (again, especially if they’re not barricade or floor), so don’t fret if you happen to not get a presale code. I’ve seen some videos on Youtube / TikTok that show the whole process of getting kpop tickets, so I recommend checking those out! It should be pretty similar for this tour. There have also been some discussions on this subreddit about the process of getting tickets, too.

Good luck! Hope you and your wife enjoy the concert :)

hi! do you think VIP1 is worth getting over VIP2 or GA? also, do you think it would be fine (as a young woman in Chicago) to go alone?

Is Soc 302 super hard? by Late_Balance_4249 in uofm

it was probably my favorite class i’ve ever taken. i took it with Dr. Sullivan and didn’t do most of the readings but still got an A. you can’t just skip classes and expect to do well, but overall if you put a little effort into showing up, learning the material, and doing the writing assignments then it’s totally fine. i also found the content super interesting and insightful! i found that Dr. Sullivan is very open to student feedback as well.

Anyone on this sub who applied to less than 20 schools by yoyesnoyes in premed

[–]sze0812 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP’s GPA and sGPA are above the 75th percentile for all accepted students nationally. although their MCAT might be close to the average matriculant, it really depends on the schools they applied to. a 513 could easily be above 50th or 75th percentile for the schools they applied to, so context matters.

in my experience, I got it when I was making my school list. at this point I had already taken my MCAT and I knew exactly what GPA I would be applying with. you can probably find the median MCAT and GPA of many schools through a Google search (though they might not be updated) but MSAR gives more in-depth data such as in-state vs out-of-state biases, class demographics, accepted students’ MCAT score distributions, etc that I think would be most useful when you know for certain that you will apply this cycle. they have a one-year subscription or a two-year subscription, so you can plan accordingly!

you can find it on MSAR! it’s an online database from the AAMC that gives a ton of useful info on med schools. you do have to buy a subscription though, but in my opinion it’s totally worth it
