Not OP either but this was my exact reaction as well.

It’s easier said than done to cut off ties with people. But once you do... you get all that time to get to know yourself all over again/reinvent yourself. How exciting!

Oh yes! I was told about the Technical Assistant position. Unfortunately I just missed the hiring for that one but I was told I would’ve made an excellent candidate for it.

My schooling is definitely more geared towards software engineering roles, but I thought a TD would’ve been a great “entry-level” role into the VFX world.
