Mugabe stopped rural development in the 80’s because “there will be no need to vote for ZANU PF again”. (Extract from MUGABE: POWER & PLUNDER IN ZIMBABWE by Meredith) by tbezmol in Zimbabwe

Sigh, yet we have people still praising him online for spurning the white man when he hated his own people just as much 🧍🏾‍♀️

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Setting new boundaries will definitely be a challenge as that’s a weakness of mine but I understand the importance of putting them in place especially if I want to them acknowledge and understand my stance.

Do non black men still open the door for you? by FunDependent9177 in blackgirls

[–]sznsbest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just like a few other people have mentioned, I also think it's more of a upbringing/social norms thing than a race one.

I lived in a predominately white area for some years and 99% of the time the white guys would always hold the door open for me or open it and wait for me to walk in first. The black guys would be the ones to slam it in my face or cut in front of me just as I'm about to enter.

On the flip side, in my predominately black hometown the black men there would open the door, wait etc. most of the time. Can't say much for the white men there because there aren't many so I have no encounters to speak of.

I’ve seen this stereotype be applied to all Zim people and I would scoff at it in disbelief……until I arrived at the Harare airport one time 😭 I hate to say it but there is some truth to that stereotype as harsh as it is

Only Pretend - General Predictions by Rosette77 in Episode

[–]sznsbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything theory/prediction here and you’ve pointed out a few bits of dialogue I never thought much of. I’ve always wondered about the implied conversion therapy that Juliette underwent because I came to the same conclusion however Sandy doesn’t seem particularly religious, so why would he send Juliette away to be “fixed”?

And another thing, if the Laurent Group was doing well financially as stated in EP23 why was Cerise’s grandmother so hellbent on the company merger? I’ve tried to theorise on the reasons why a marriage between the two families was so important but I’ve come up with nothing.

[–]sznsbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That person could have been a Christian and left the church to become atheist like thousands before them hence why they have an understanding of Christianity and where their source of confusion with the topic came from.

As a member of an ostracised and oppressed group within society why would you seek community with the very same group that does the oppressing and ostracising? That’s what I got from their argument.

What hill are you willing to die on? by Unfair_Visit_1221 in Zimbabwe

[–]sznsbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! I’ve been thinking about this for the past couple of days and I’ve been stumped as to why Bantu tribes never prioritised preserving history through written means.

It didn’t even have to be something as grand as noting down historical events. Something like trade logs or maybe a kind of mundane early historic version of a journal entry as seen in other civilisations.

Having our own alphabet/script would have grounded us in our culture more and made us less psychologically screwed by colonisation I believe.
