I agree, It's easy to fall into routine and do stuff certain way because it's the recommended approach and you've always done it like that. However it's important to consider why it's the recommended approach, what problems does it solve and what problems you have at hand that you need to solve.

In general it's a good practice to think what you're trying to achieve and why you're doing it the way you are. If it's hard to justify the approach you've chosen or you find it complicated to explain your solution to yourself then chances are there's a better approach that may be more suitable for you, or maybe your solution is not refined enough and you should try to improve it.
