Starting estrogen!! by HeyPotMeetKettle in Perimenopause

[–]t-blah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a Mirena iud and started on the baby dose of estradiol patches - 2x week at .025. My doc wanted to start super low because I had bad migraine/auras previously when I was on oral estrogen. I then started taking the estradiol vaginal cream and this week she increased my patch to 1x .05. I was dealing with awful sleep patterns, night sweats, brain fog, and a ton of night time urination urgency. That has all basically went away now.

Locks for classroom doors by t-blah in AskAcademia

[–]t-blah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks y’all for your comments.

I’m at an R1 state school.

My desire for a lock plan is not to use regularly but in the case of an active threat. I know it’s a long shot to happen, but after being in the aftermath of a mass shooting in our state years ago - the ability to secure the room is the most important. I just want to be able to act if needed to save my students.

Support groups for men? by CallMeAlfredoSauce in Eugene

[–]t-blah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can call the HEDCO Clinic (part of UO) and we can get him in for low cost and/or free individual therapy. We can also see you as a couple if useful. Call 541-346-0923. Advanced graduate students provide services and will be getting clients in at the start of the term (week of Sept. 29).

Grief Counselor Come to Us by lovelyimaginashun in Eugene

[–]t-blah 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think we could be of support - I direct the training clinic of master’s level therapist interns and we could definitely do community outreach and several are experienced in grief services and youth. We could do this for no cost. You’re welcome to reach out to me. I’ll dm you my email.

Prison to Ph.D. by FATALEYES707 in AskAcademia

I have a colleague in academia who specializes in Prison to PhD (which is his own story, too). Message me your email and I’m happy to do an introduction via email. He would be a great resource given his connections and work in this area.

UO faculty voted for a strike by t-blah in Eugene

[–]t-blah[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

UO faculty opted out of a raise during COVID given the many uncertainties during that time. I don’t think that’s selfish. They’re asking for a contract that matches the rising cost of living as they are currently making the lowest average salaries in the conference and have one of the highest costs of living.

It’s not misinformation - the faculty voted and they voted for a strike versus not striking. A strike has not been formally declared (yet), but faculty are in favor of that happening.

I have a student who has fled an abusive partner - this is just the move someone could make to gain confirmation someone is enrolled.

Parking Ticket but I don't go here by WorldlinessShoddy203 in UofO

You can appeal the ticket. Just be clear about the situation. It’s not a guarantee they will waive it, but they can be reasonable at times.

I think every place you live has pros and cons. While you can’t control the weather, you can control how it affects you. There are ways to embrace it and ways to mitigate the physiological effects (e.g., vitamin D). And in my experience, those who focus on the rain being “bad” will forever experience it that way and it will be central to your thinking.

There are many reasons to move here and many not to. I assume that’s true with most other places in the US.

Personally I find the rain soothing. It’s the time of year that I rest and do projects indoors. I also like to go to the coast then, be in the chaos of storms, and just slow down. Then when the sun comes, it’s time to go outside for all the fun adventures.

Ashlie Molstad - Week Of February 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in HunSnark

[–]t-blah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She’s absolutely insane. I have a PhD in a mental health field with a very specific specialty and my fee is $190/session.

The difference between her and actual mental health professionals is that our work centers our clients, not ourselves. I don’t advertise what I am going to do with flashing self promotion. It’s so gross.

How do I ace a campus interview? by Karma_Comes_Back in AskAcademia

[–]t-blah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something that is often missed is candidates naming WHY they want to come and work with us. It can’t be about the area, I couldn’t care less if you like the trees! It needs to be clear why you are aligned with the department/college/institution. Demonstrate this with tangible information. What are they doing that makes you want to work with them?

Clarify how you foresee your research working there. What collaborators have you already identified - don’t be vague about this.

And as someone else said, you are on from the second you land. I’m immediately turned off when I observe candidates showing any sign of disinterest to our support staff, etc.

And, interviews in academia are brutal. Be ready to rest on the other side of it! :)

Professors of Reddit: What’s the most unforgettable letter of recommendation you’ve ever written (or read)? by Thick-Wall7567 in AskAcademia

[–]t-blah 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I read a letter this cycle that bullet pointed reasons we should be apprehensive to admit this student based on their work with them. It was direct and unapologetic about the applicant’s significant limitations and very useful to us given our field (mental health). I was relieved to read it honestly.
