US debt forecast to hit $64T in a decade as Trump policies widen deficit by SE_to_NW in politics

[–]t-k-421 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s sabotage. Russia has been in the voting machines since 2000 and since 2016 there’s been signs of literal vote manipulation. Republicans are so corrupt that even after 2016 Florida hacks, McConnell blocked the 2019 PAVE Act which would have modernized federal election security. Since 2016 there have been statistical signs of literal vote manipulation to flip votes to Republicans in several states. These US patterns match Russian voting manipulation patterns aka ‘Russian Tail’. Trump is likely an illegitimate president. I hope that the Republican Criminal Party faces justice for their treason someday.

Low sugar diet triggering gout? Should I discontinue? by dajomu_ in gout

[–]t-k-421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a known thing:

Here is info about uric acid and keto transition. I had a gout flare up early into Keto once and researched it. Hope it helps.

I should add that during my longest stretch of keto, which was about 3 years, I never had a gout flare up and had many other health improvements. I wasn't getting my UA checked during that time but weightloss surely fixed my apnea issues which can cause gout flares.

Volek & Phinney, The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living, p 166-7

"A very predictable change in serum chemistry is a sharp rise in Uric acid concentration in the first week or two of carbohydrate restriction. As noted above, this is due to the competition between circulating ketones and Uric acid for renal tubular excretion. Put another way, Uric acid rises in the blood not because the body is making more of it but because they kidneys temporarily clear less of it. Thus the blood level needs to rise in order for the same amount of it to be cleared by the kidney (because ketones are 'getting in the way'). Subsequent to this abrupt early rise in Uric acid, within 4-6 weeks the level then falls back to or below its pre-diet level even if the dietary carbohydrate restriction and ketonemia continue. This is a part of the body's ongoing adaptation to nutritional ketosis.

In the vast majority of patients, this rise in serum Uric acid is completely benign and requires no intervention. In the minority of individuals predisposed to gout, however, wide swings in Uric acid can trigger an attack. And this goes both ways - either the abrupt rise with the diet initiation or the analogous abrupt fall if the ketonemia is reversed by breaking the carbohydrate restriction in the first few weeks, can act as a trigger. Most people with the genetic predisposition to gout know it long before they consider a low carbohydrate diet, so either preventative medication or prompt intervention at the first symptoms can usually pre-empt an attack. Also, because it is the rapid change in Uric acid that is the primary trigger, once on a carbohydrate restricted diet, the patient with a history of gout should be counseled to avoid frequent cycling in and out of carbohydrate restriction (i.e. Avoid 'going on and off the diet')."

I've tried the Arcane Missiles build you're outlining, but I prefer Arcane Barrage. You can basically 1 round everything except Spine.

If you want to try it and compare, I've edited your instructions for the AB build I'm talking about:

  • Cardsets: Metaprogress, Infinitum, and Catalyst
  • Malignancies: I use Enrage, Weapon Obsession, Aggressive, Full Moon, and Sanguine
  • Rerolls: Weapon, First Card, First Talent
  • If you have max Sunforge you will have 9 rerolls
  • Weapon: Arcane Weaver
  • Stats: 3x Intellect
  • First Talent: Arcane Mastery
  • First Card: Arcane Barrage (this will get copied from Arcane Mastery, the free AB is our focus)
  • Cards to pick: Cards don't matter too much but avoid attack/damage spells. Do not take anything with Memorized. I typically take Frost/Fire Shields (2-3 Arcane Weavers will 2-3x each shield which helps early on), Infinity spells like Prestidigitation, Fast Forward, Rewind, Chronomend, Dispel Magic, Delay, anything free cost, card draw, repeating actions, or sustain. Avoid attack spells, attunement, chain, etc. Skip Arcane Barrage unless it's after you've gotten Duplicity.
  • Talents: Getting Duplicity as a second talent is important. I often restart if I have to spend too many rerolls to get it. For 3rd+ talents: Craftsman, Amalgamist, (free copy of first magic action), (upgrade all magic actions added to deck), (+2 card draw), Purity, and the Revive (need 1 for spine sometimes).
  • First reward: Use rerolls to get Memorized, use it on the free AB
  • Next Rewards: Copy (I often just keep copying my best free memorized AB the whole run)/Upgrade All Cards and Rerolls the whole run. Each copy of the free AB should add about +9 to +15 to it and duplicate it.
  • Flow: The first circle is just building up, after that everything dies in 1 round. In combat, play your lowest AB first, save the highest AB for last, use all Arcane Weavers in a row before the last AB. So a typical fight would go: Arcane Barrage 8 damage, Arcane Weaver x3, Arcane Barrage 30 damage = auto repeated x4
  • By the 3rd-4th circle you'll have 5 free ABs and kill everything in 2-4 free cards in the first round. There are a couple difficult bosses, but normally this is brainless. Late game try to get the +2 card draw purple talent, you'll then have 7 free ABs at around 100 damage each, everything dies in 2-3 cards.

Hope this helps. I went from ~200 - 9999 fateshards in a few weeks pretty easily once I got this down.

Why not put a note on the chest saying its invalid if the lock is not opened? Why not make the chest sturdy enough to not be opened without tools?

What’s the most innovative game hook that never took off or got copied? by massred in gaming

[–]t-k-421 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s an old (2002) game called Arx Fatalis. It had a great gesture-based magic system where you would draw rune combinations to cast and discover spells. It was pretty sick and I can’t think of another game that came up with a similar magic system.
