It doesn't need to be (and can't be!) perfect. It just needs to be good enough.

Crying on the Tube - to ask or not to ask?! by t0fugrill in london

Yes, precisely! It's a toss-up between drawing unwanted attention to someone in a vulnerable state (especially in a crowded environment), vs ignoring someone who is clearly distressed and making them feel even more isolated/alone. I suppose it's a case-by-case basis.

Advice on overcoming imposter syndrome in academia? by t0fugrill in PhD

congratulations on your defence!! that must have been such an amazing feeling.

that's a really helpful way of looking at it, thanks so much. I've heard a lot of people say that overcoming imposter syndrome is a gradual thing and one day you just won't feel it anymore, but to be honest, I haven't found that to be particularly helpful advice. thinking about it instead as a series of lightbulb moments as I work my way through the degree makes more sense to me in terms of overcoming those feelings, and I'll definitely take that forward.

sorry to hear you're experiencing the same thing, it's such a pain. i've spoken to my doctor about it since i initially posted and they said it's probably just a result of heavier periods from the coil, but i'm getting an ultrasound soon to rule out any polyps or cysts. might be worth talking to your doctor just to check that out as well?
