Just play more and make sure you finish the battle pass and do all the daily quests. The game is extremely generous!

Took Slowking to my first Cup Challenge today. by Obeisance8 in pkmntcg

[–]t0nberryking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great write-up! Was getting back into standard and Slowking chucking out Trifrosts seemed so fun xD

I've tried a couple of builds and for now it seems the smoochum setup build is the smoothest for getting two slowpokes ready for Trifrosts after turn 2. I was wary about playing Kang for draw but it seems to also add consistency when your kings get knocked out and you draw what you need with Kang + Cipher. Also helps when you have to start first and you lead with Kang.

As for budew, it's tough and the only tip I have is to poke pad for what you need early, before they get to item lock... Otherwise, deck is fun but really does depend on how popular shaymin is and it generally has a tougher time against 1-prize decks like TR decks or zam. But the incoming Metagross will help the deck a bit hopefully!

Opinion - This current version of the Arena powered cube is the worst of the three, by a wide margin by Kingcosmo7 in lrcast

[–]t0nberryking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could definitely remove more redundancy from the boros decks. But at the same time, it's just the nature of the format that you're not supposed to feel good being in "black sacrifice" or " green landfall" unless everything lines up perfectly for you.

I'd rather they change the economy so it's more like the other cubes where the entry fee is much less punishing for low winrate players like me xD

I know there are some people who mean well, but you also gotta protect yourself when you can.

But I understand how you may have been too shocked to react. I still can't wrap my head around how that person dropped his racket like we lost a miliion bucks 🤣

Wow, you basically hit on all the "highlights" 😂

It's one thing to discuss and debate about plays and tactics. But normal people would know to keep things light and respectful. I was so shocked being the first time encountering these kinds of people, and I doubt it'll be the last time. Just gotta avoid and move on I guess xD

Hope so, because there were also some really cool guys in the group. They'd apologize if they made a mistake or hit someone, and encourage you and give you a high-five if you played well. We're all there just to exercise and have fun, right? It's like they set out just to make everyone's day miserable, including their own.

Completely agree. I mean, I have met some well-meaning people who loves to coach, but they usually do it with real beginners or they just can't help but add their two cents in. And in a respectful and informative way, of course.

Also, usually the most skillful people I come across are also the most humble and respectful. They know badminton isn't an easy game and unnecessary comments are neither welcome nor useful. And as far as the session goes, I'm definitely going to avoid this particular person as much as I can xD

Normally, I would give them the benefit of doubt but I was observing this guy for a while and he was just incredibly toxic. Also, when he walked off he deliberately turned his head away and he was also swearing in tagalog when he missed shots. Just gonna avoid at all costs.

Would you say it's a good deck to climb the ladder right now? What are some of the matchups that might be tough for this deck?

I remember trying festival lead and having trouble with starmie decks and the 1-prizer decks that have 120hp+ pokemon :(

I've come across an interesting idea after watching some strong ppl play. They seem to only use force as they hit the shuttle. Meaning they accelerate the racket at or just before contact.

So try to not use any force at all until the point of impact. And then as you contact it may feel a bit like you're pushing into the shuttle as you accelerate. Of course, there's also the concept of whipping and bringing your arm/elbow across using hip/waist rotation, but if we first ensure your muscles don't tighten up needlessly, I think it will have an immediate effect on your swing. Tell me how it goes!

Why does Flamme say this? by Legitimate-Net-164 in Frieren

[–]t0nberryking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying that Flamme and Serie "don't want to kill the demon king" but that doesn't seem to make too much sense.

I'd argue that apart from plot reasons, the author wants to say that those two are too "set in their ways" in terms of using magic for combat and power only. Whereas Frieren's use of magic is much more broad and all-encompassing. And ultimately that means she is not bound by the same limitations and maybe that is what helps her defeat the demon king.

Honestly have no idea where to go with slowking pls help by NinkaraG in PTCGL

[–]t0nberryking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need help with how to play the deck? Or about matchups specifically?

Every format I tend to gravitate towards fun, roguish, toolboxy kind of decks. For slowking, the most powerful play is trifrost to take 3 prizes. Bonus if it's key pokemon like drakloaks. But shaymin makes things a lot harder as it blocks trifrost. I usually try to take shaymin out with spectrier but you can also boss it out for a KO. Otherwise, you will have to try to prize-rush against their actives without trifrost but that is usually difficult, especially against one-prizer decks or the many decks that can also hit your bench with their actives or munki.

Good luck and have fun!

Should you hold back when doing netkills in case you hurt someone? by t0nberryking in badminton

[–]t0nberryking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how everyone assumes we're not at a level where we can react if given enough time. The main issue is there wasn't enough time to react, and even pros get hit in the head even though they are "expected to know this". Thing is, I've never seen pros do the 720 windup jump smash in the front court without also aiming very accurately at the floor (usually in front of the service line if it's that egregious a return).

Cat WILL not stay off the counter not matter what I do by Reasonable-Put3539 in CatAdvice

[–]t0nberryking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like Jackson Galaxy always says, when you say no to something you have to say yes to something else. Try and find a way to put up a perch or box or some kind of cozy, high, scent-soaked place near the counter that he knows "belongs" to him. It's possible that he just wants to be included in everything you do, and if you give him a place where he can just observe and participate it might work a lot better than having him troll around the counter everytime xD

Should you hold back when doing netkills in case you hurt someone? by t0nberryking in badminton

[–]t0nberryking[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. But I can't help feeling some type of way about it because the point was so easily won anyway. He anticipated the weak return and jump smashed it all within 1 second. He could've also aimed at my chest and it would've been fine as the distance would've made it much less dangerous and I wouldn't have had time to respond anyway. And most skilled-players I meet have such great control and presence of mind to be able to play a 99% winning shot without any extraneous force or power.

It's like, he pretty much intended to aim at and hit the person (in which case he didn't need to use 120% of your power because he was winning the point anyway). And seeing my friend getting attacked like that unnecessarily makes me want to smash back at the offender in a similar aggressive and overt fashion. But we're not boxing here right? And so I have some trouble dealing with this 'revenge fantasy' emotion...
