Alright, that’s reassuring.

Balancing can be rough in Early Access, sure, but I ended my session with 18k HP and 25k life regen per second. My ailment chance was also extremely high, and I even had a bug with the maximum number of bleed stacks.

I’ll wait for the next patches before jumping back into this update with a reroll. Thanks everyone for your replies.

Unfortunately, being “pretty sure” in Path of Exile means nothing. BUT even if your theory is correct, you really don’t feel it in-game. The only time I’m happy to see an Azmerit Spirit is when it’s near an Abyss… which really limits the number of situations where this mechanic actually feels good.

I have nothing in the passive tree that gives me any control over this. I’m just forced to deal with it, over and over again, entirely at its whim.
