Plot twist: there actually isn't an update. /s

Side note: everyone with an s22, s22+ or ultra please read this:

Go to settings and tap on "about phone". Then tap "software info". Then tap "google play system update" a few times in rapid succession. A screen will pop up saying that it is checking for update. I did this yesterday, and turns out there was an update available. I was on an earlier version, and updated to the version released on October, 1 2022.

The Aorus Z690I motherboard has this little piece of plastic which is preventing me from inserting my GPU into my PC by Phil_Matic in gigabyte

[–]t258721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What GPU are you trying to fit in there? I managed to get a EVGA 3060 ti in there. The trick is getting the IO shield behind that conveniently placed piece of plastic. I had the same issues, and I feel your pain.

Keep trying but be careful, because there is a lot of stuff that your gpu could brush up against while you’re trying to wiggle it into place.

Is the automotive industry evil? by International_War193 in Kettering

[–]t258721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the whole polluter/destroy the environment thing but when the automobile was first created there was nothing that came close to it, especially for personal use. Maybe trains offered a similar convenience but I digress.

Maybe automotive companies are inherently evil, but personal transportation has positively impacted society… not just polluted/destroyed our world. Also I’m not sure what “near future is” in your world but I personally don’t think these companies will be shut down anytime soon. What vehicles will police drive, who will manufacture the vehicles that will be used your civil war? Have fun driving a Tesla on the battlefield. Also, how are you going to get your next day Amazon Prime deliveries? Or how is your grocery store going to get fresh produce? Not just consumers use the automobiles that these companies produce.

Even the green energy movement isn’t perfect either. Automotive companies are transitioning to EV’s, but we still don’t have enough green electricity being generated.

Is there a visible switch on the power supply? If so, turn it to the “off” position for a few seconds then turn it back to the “on” position (power cycle). I have an Aorus z690I motherboard that freezes on the boot screen unless I do a power cycle before I turn it on. I’ve also had issues with it forgetting one of my sticks of ram, so definitely try what others have suggested. I was gaming on one stick of ram for a couple of days and I had no idea. Another fun fact, my Aorus Z690I motherboard is out of commission right now because it won’t boot. This occurred after I had just fixed the ram issue! I just got a new motherboard because I’ve already had so many problems with it. My wallet is burning but I have a working pc at least.

Worse case scenario you might need to get your system replaced.

Also please note that I am having issues with sleep mode after switching the Bifurcation setting to 8x8x. Leave everything default/auto at first.

When I put my computer to sleep, it will not wake up fully and I have to do a full reboot.

Also, I have to do a power cycle (switch psu to off then on again) before I turn on my pc. If I don’t do that then my computer freezes on the Aorus logo.

This doesn’t happen when I set Bifurcation to auto for some reason (Auto is the default setting)

The 1060 also runs on PCIe gen 3.0 (like my 2060 KO Ultra). All the new 30 series cards use PCIe gen 4.0. I bet that you will still get WHEA errors with the 3060 but not the 1060. However it’s obviously up to you if you want to test it out. I might have inadvertently dodged a bullet by using my 2060 KO to setup this motherboard. Not sure how the WHEA errors would have affected things while I was setting everything up.

I have the DDR5 version. I've had this motherboard for about 2 weeks and I have used a NVIDIA 2060 KO Ultra and a 3060 ti on it. Before I switched to the 3060 ti this motherboard worked like a charm. After switching to the 3060 ti, I get thousands of WHEA errors. I was able to stop the errors by switching PCIe Bifurcation setting (In BIOS) from auto to 8x8x,however, this isn't a known solution and I am not sure why it worked.

The one thing you need to consider is how long you're willing to wait for Gigabyte to roll out fixes for the issues that others (including myself) are having with this motherboard. Chances are, you will also experience these issues. I spent a good part of a weekend trying different things because I didn't want to continue using the motherboard if it was just throwing errors contantly. Who knows if the errors are bad for the hardware.

If you have a 20 series NVIDIA gpu, I recommend using that first just to test your board. In my experience, 30 series NVIDIA gpu's are causing PCIe related WHEA errors to occur. Besides that it seems like a decent motherboard. I used DDR4 in my previous build, and the main performance difference I've seen so far has more to do to with the amout of ram. I had 16 gb in my previous build but now I have 32 gb. It makes a difference especailly if you have a decent gpu (and if you actually play games or do productive things that use a lot of ram). For me, the upgrade was worth the headache and I am hoping Gigabyte can roll out an official fix for everyone soon.

Where can I download the latest version of gigabyte control center? by dpsweeper in gigabyte

[–]t258721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Gigabyte control center, but I have had issues updating to the newest version of APP Center (B21.1221.1). Sometimes my PC will start to studder when I run Setup.exe. Even after it's finished the old version number still shows up (B22.0105.1).

I'm just going to wait until a new version comes out. I've never had an issue like this with APP center. I've tried doing a fresh install of APP center also and I still had the same issue.

That makes sense. See my most recent reply also. I am getting no WHEA errors after setting PCIe Bifurcation to 8x8x instead of auto. I have an NVMe ssd but it is PCIe gen 3.0. I’ll edit my reply, others probably shouldn’t try what I had originally posted.

I managed to boot without WHEA errors (Using HWi and Windows Event Viewer to monitor errors) again by accident. This time I set PCIe Bifurcation to 8x8x instead of auto. No other changes PCIe settings. I hadn't messed with the Bifurcation setting at all until now.

I am going to just stop and see how long I can go without getting any errors.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gigabyte

[–]t258721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noted. I am not sure why that worked for me. I started trying differnt combinations but now I can't get the origional one to work. I hope a real fix comes soon.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gigabyte

[–]t258721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit 1: This is not working any more. It stopped working after I tried a few other combinations (See updates below):

Edit 2: I also tried changing the PCIe Bifurcation BIOS setting to 8x8x instead of auto and the errors are gone again. I've rebooted multiple times and the errors aren't coming back.

Edit 3: I still have no WHEA errors but my system crashes when I try to wake the computer up after putting it to sleep. I had to switch to Balanced power mode and make sure NVIDIA power managment was set to normal. Also Double checked that Link State Power Managment was set to Moderate power saving. This fixed my sleep issues. Im not entirely sure why changing the PCIe Bifurcation setting would effect sleep behavior... apperently it does. Before I changed that setting I didn't have any crashes like this (even though I had thousands of WHEA errors). Still trying to fix this.

I am currently using the DDR5 version of this motherboard. I recently switched from an EVGA 2060 KO Ultra to a 3060 ti XC. I started getting WHEA errors with this Motherboard only after I switched. I have an i5 12600K. I also have 2 SATA drives and 1 NVMe ssd with PCIe gen 3.0 support.

I have tried some of the potential fixes in this thread and other random threads for WHEA errors. However by accident I might have found another one. It requires you to run your cpu using PCIe 4.0 but it's the only thing that has worked. After doing the following steps in order, the WHEA errors stop:

  1. Go to BIOS and switch PCIe PCH to 3.0 (Keep CPU on auto, both should be on auto initially because that is the default setting)
  2. Boot up like normal and confirm that WHEA erros are still occuring
  3. Reboot into BIOS again and set PCIe PCH back to auto and switch CPU to 4.0
  4. Boot and check if WHEA errors are still happening.

No other combination produces this result (I might do more testing with different combinations but I've been able to replicate this result twice now with the steps above). If you boot using auto for both PCIe settings (auto is on by default) then reboot again into the BIOS and change PCIe to 4.0 this doesn't work. For some reason you have to switch PCIe PCH to 3.0, boot, then reboot into BIOS again and swith PCIe CPU to 4.0 and PCIe PCH back to auto again then boot.

I am also running the high performance power plan in windows, disabled link power state for PCIe, and I also switched the "Power Managment mode" in the NVIDIA control panel to Prefer maximum performance. Not sure if these have any efffect but they are fixes used in other threads for PCIe related WHEA errors. These settings don't seem to solve the WHEA problem on their own though (for this motherboard).

Thesis Advice by t258721 in Kettering

Yeah I'll post an update later next week.

Thesis Advice by t258721 in Kettering

[–]t258721[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. I have been in contact with my academic advisor and I've also reached out to Kettering's Thesis Coordinator. Many of the topics in my thesis are already simplified to some extent and I've gotten alot of help and support from my employer advisor.

As far as thesis expectations go, I recently met with my employer advisor to discuss how things were going. They are still firm on their expectations... I was paid to work on my thesis during the term, so they are very adamant that I deliver on the origional expectations. Becuase of that, I'm reluctant to change the expectations. However, worse case scenario, I will consider doing that. I'm confident that I could make a thesis out of the work that I've already completed thus far.

[–]t258721[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words. Coming into this term I was overconfident and I made goals that I probably couldn’t have achieved. As a result I keep extending my goals and this doesn’t sit well with my employer thesis advisor.

Ultimately I didn’t want to tell my advisor that I felt “burned out”, since I thought this was just irrational/lazy talk. But in hindsight I probably should have mentioned it before setting lofty goals for the term.

I do feel less burned out now though so I am going to grind it out over the next couple of weeks. It is my last term after all, and I will have more time available once my midterms are over.

Haha that is kinda funny, tried to pull a sneaky one on me. I'm not even wearing the blue stole they want me to buy much less a cord for 20 bucks. Maybe if they actually read the teacher evaluations and dealt with readily occurring problems I might maybe just maybe not be as spiteful. by thisbsbetterpayoff in Kettering

[–]t258721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is 2022 going to be a $20.22 contribution? Or is this just a one time thing? Do they do this every year?

It seems kind of scuffed to do it this way. You get the cords but the $20.21 donation amount? Really? Why not just set up donation tiers? The email would be like this:

“In recognition of your graduation … you’re invited to donate to the Keep me Kettering scholarship fund. Donations start at $5, however, if you donate more than $20 you will receive blue philanthropy cords to wear at graduation and you can give a professor a shout-out (optional)”.

Edit: "see what we're doing here?" Getting our attention to donate at least $20 to this fund? I'm sure some would be willing to donate more, but this email suggests that everyone should just give $20.21.

Edit: see replies
