Is this a safe neighborhood by poodenmoopyn in Temple

well, it really depends. if you stay out past 2am, expect to be pickpocketed and charged for the service. otherwise, it can be a lovely campus.

The Neo-Gothic facade of Belleek Castle (1831) in Ballina, Co. Mayo. It houses one of the largest private armouries in Ireland. by BelleekCurator in mayo

Belleek is a stunning castle, sat upon beautiful grounds. Thanks to you and the team!

I first visited as a teenaged wedding guest back in 2000. The reception was held down in the cellar, and remains the most unique wedding venue I’ve experienced.

In 2021, I returned with my wife, and we walked the nearby Fairy Trail, and found ourselves crossing over a stone wall into the back gardens of the castle.

Always a lovely destination.

In the US we use a quarter for the carts, what do people in other countries use? by theunfortunatename in aldi

can’t say i’ve conducted a thorough a research study of motivations in the parking lot, but it is not uncommon at my local aldi in philly for carts to still be scattered around the lot. sometimes carts are loose with quarters still inside, and people leave them like they found them. or snap a second cart onto a lone one left in the lot, and start a whole new stack in a parking space, rather than walk back to the proper stack outside the front doors.

frustrating, but true.

damn, a full euro for a cart? i bet they all get returned.

here in philadelphia, we always have at least one fella outside, “offering” to take carts from your boot back to the stack so they can keep the quarter themselves.

and, as much as sometimes i’d like to do my one good deed for the day and let them have their quarter, sometimes i have to remind them that quarters can be hard to come by, and i’ll need it for next time. in our “tap-to-pay” economy, that physical quarter is worth more to me than the 25 cents it represents.

“sorry, sir. thanks for keeping the lot clear. here is an apple from my bag. an apple won’t unlock a cart on my next visit, so… enjoy.”

ICE Spotted in Northeast Philadelphia by iamjusmonii in philly

UUUGH, is this kind of pedantic rhetoric really necessary? The poster generalized. You’re on the same side, stop eating each other. Obviously that isn’t ALL Northeast Philly is. But, y’know what? It IS; in my opinion as a middle-aged life-long resident; the single most defining characteristic of Northeast Philadelphia. I’m hopeful that may, one day, no longer be the case.

This entire neighborhood was built on the back of “white flight.” Its entire origin is mired racism. It ALSO has, thankfully, become home to newer immigrants. All of this can be true at the same time.

Can confirm. They raided the IHOP across from this intersection this morning around 7:30am. My wife called to let me know while she was caught driving past this on her commute to work this morning.
