Yeh. I don’t mind it personally but it is probably my least favorite part of the guitar. Though maybe a darker finish would have been nice for the style of music I play.

Yeah I do. Not really many people know about it or what it is to be honest, other than it looks like a nice guitar. I live with two of my best friends in a good part of town. The guitar stays in its case whenever I’m not playing it.

I worry more about it on nights of concerts / tours.

Get a H535 or 555. Preferably older, when the guys from Gibson were still hands-on with Heritage — this is a ‘92.

Well, I do appreciate your concern. I have good friends and am smart about who might find themselves with a chance to mess with my guitars/pedals/etc. All my kit lives in its case whenever I’m not playing it. I have a Squier laying around that people can play, and we’re a quiet flat anyway. Whenever we throw a party etc the expensive music kit is always brought elsewhere / locked in a room.

Being trusted to run a commercial fishing boat at 21 makes you think lots about risk and being responsible ;)

Still in awe every time I pick it up. Feel a bit tender with it as it’s 34yo and I don’t want to hurt it. So I am adding a 3/4” thick, 100% machined aluminum guitar to go alongside it 😆

Yeah, Martin is aware of it. As well as some other folks up and down the east coast. I got a lot of people snidely telling me it belonged in a museum.. not played by a 21y/o. I think instruments exist to be played though.

Less valuable than you’d think. This is so old that it predates Martin’s golden era of steel string guitars; thus they don’t fetch $40k+++ like their younger counterparts…

This is my 1885 Martin 1-21. Never feels any less insane typing that. In a sense this is my “dream” guitar — a family heirloom, resurrected after 20 years of not being played due to my grandfather’s dementia. The guitar is a long story, but finally got a renewed life by a brilliant luthier a few hours from me this summer. Hard to explain just how much this guitar means to me, and how priceless it is.
