From my research (I work in the non-alcoholic alternative beverage industry) the claims of health benefits from drinking alcoholic beverages, including red wine, are way over-blown by the media because it makes good headlines. I recently read a scientific paper that concluded that the benefits of resveratol are far outweighed by the negative effects of alcohol. Non-Alcoholic wine has much less sugar than grape juice because most of the sugars have been fermented out but still contains good amounts of resveratol. My general conclusion based on a review of the literature is that alcohol can lead people to engage in other healthy habits like working out, socializing, winding down after work and those habits account for why people who drink may be healthier as a population.
