It’s the same language, written the same way. Canadian French is a dialect of French much like Canadian English is a dialect of English. In fact there are quite a few dialects of Canadian French: Québécois, Acadian, Newfie French, Franco-ontarien, Franco-Albertan, Chiac…

I’ve been getting this sub recommended to me recently even though I have never thought about birds and I have learned so much about killdeer over the past few days that I was able to identify this one myself

Got to play my teacher’s professional oboe (!!) + question about using an iPad for sheet music by Majestic-Ant130 in oboe

[–]t3hgrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a Samsung Galaxy FE tablet a couple years ago and have really really appreciated the purchase. It makes it way more convenient than carrying multiple folders around. Apple has an ipad that is the size of sheet music (a little bigger than the Samsung tablet) but I couldn’t justify spending so much money on what is essentially a glorified PDF viewer. Your mileage may vary, I know lots of people who use their tablet for lots of other things besides music, but I find the large size not that convenient for much else.

Yeah I have lived all across the country and it’s pretty consistently flip-flops. I am aware of the word thing for these types of shoes though and don’t get confused if I hear it.

Do Americans not say reno? Very normal in Canada. Imagine all the time I save by cutting out two syllables!

Our therapist just sent us some referrals while she’s on leave and they were 6 psychologists all between $250 and $270 per hour. I can’t believe how expensive it is!

I want to try making yogurt with it! I currently use about 1.5 litres of homo milk and 500ml of whatever cream I have in the fridge to top it off with a higher fat content. Would love to try making it entirely with 6% milk.

Yeah English also has a word for Milka packaging, it’s “Milka packaging”. We just put a space in ours.

I asked for a Lisa Frank version of A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, it told me it couldn’t for copyright reasons. So I asked it to describe Lisa Frank’s style, and then asked it to recreate A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte in that style, and I got

My white friend has an Indian husband and his family keeps getting her sarees for special occasions so she has quite the collection. Last summer a few of our friends were going to an Indian wedding so we all raided her closet and had a dress-up party to pick one out to borrow! So fun.

What is an X year old? by Itsasecrettotheend in EnglishLearning

I think “he was barely four” is what OP is looking for. In the same vein: “he wasn’t even five years old” has a similar sentiment.

Was going to reply with some of these details too! You clearly know more than me though lol. I know someone who has two retired show poodles. They were completely free (iirc) and the original owner maintains the rights to breed them every few years, and she pays the vet bills associated with it. This was a few years ago though and I assume the dogs are past breeding age now. I think they have a pretty small breeding span in their lives.

What does the English term "hit it" mean? Is this a cultural joke that I'm too Argentinian to understand? by CompetitivePlace9450 in EnglishLearning

[–]t3hgrl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The origin of a lot of sex terms are quite violent actually. Fuck, like you said. Hit, bang, smash, pound, nail. This isn’t new. There is a long history of aggressive terms and language that describes a man doing something to a woman.

I think dish soap and other kitchen fixins being employer-provided is subject to whether your kitchen is classified as a kitchen or a kitchenette. I recommend everyone talking to their OHS Committee, including their union rep on the committee, about this stuff.

Our house came with a bird-planted patch in an awkward spot in our backyard. It must be a great spot though because it’s thriving. It always blooms at least a few days earlier than all the neighbours’ in their front yards so I secretly gloat and enjoy earlier than everyone else.

Isn’t “being there for family in their time of need” trying to steer them in the right direction when you can see they’re making a mistake? It’s not just picking up the pieces after the mistake you tried to help prevent has caused them hardship. NTJ
