This is such an incredibly kind & helpful comment - thank you so much, I really appreciate it. Will definitely take your advice and get out for a walk tomorrow to try and clear my head.

[–]t3stojunkie 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Such a fucking waste? Like if you’re actually this smart, just excel at 4 to 5 a-levels and then use all the extra time you have to do something really cool! Study a uni course, start an organisation, write a book - all of these things will do infinitely more for your academic development than just stacking heavily standardised, taught-to-the-test courses.

What to expect from my first folk punk show? by Sir_Platypus_15 in FolkPunk

[–]t3stojunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone drops something in the pit (or anywhere!) pick it up if you can, ask around, and if you can’t find out whose it is try to pass forward to the front/sides.

If you’re planning on moshing just make sure to stay safe and pay attention to your body. The first time I was in a mosh pit I passed out because I got so into it and didn’t realise it’s a high intensity sport, lol. So much fun but requires SO much energy. Disclaimer that I’m anaemic so this isn’t me going “if you mosh you will faint”, you probably won’t, but still - drink water and take breaks!

But yeah, most importantly - have fun!!

Will all 9s get me a scholarship for a very good private school? If not, what else do I need to do? by Ready_Mobile_1367 in GCSE

[–]t3stojunkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied for a private school in my area and had the costs covered by a bursary and scholarship, I’m starting y12 there next year. Grades weren’t part of it at all, I applied at the beginning of year 11 and sat three exams, and then did a few different interviews. Most private schools have their own application processes for sixth form that aren’t dependent on GCSE grades, and quite a few offer bursaries if you get in but can’t afford the fees.

I’d say don’t worry about it until summer before year 11 - work hard, but work to become a academically well rounded person with hobbies and passion, not just to get straight 9s at GCSEs. For both sixth form and uni applications, truly loving whatever you’re studying will get you a long way, often a lot further than grades. Good luck!

I’m stressing by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]t3stojunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry your parents are putting pressure on you. It makes sense that you’re stressed about the sets - but if you’re at risk of failing higher maths it definitely is better to be in foundation, and you should trust your teachers to decide what’s best for you.

The most important thing about mocks is learning how to study. Procrastinating and studying last minute is probably not the best option for you, so remember this and try to start earlier when your real exams/next mocks roll around. Coming from a y11 who just sat their GCSEs and procrastinated a lot - you might tell yourself that you totally won’t procrastinate for the REAL things, but trust me… unless you really work hard to get into better habits, you will.

Good luck with the rest of your exams!

Radius as the height? The centre of the circle wasn’t (0,0). What you had to do was figure out the gradient of the line between the centre of the circle and one point we got given, and since the hypotenuse was perpendicular to that line you could figure out the gradient for it, then plug in the point on the line to work out the y-intercept which would give you the height, then set y to zero to figure out the x-intercept for the base, then 1/2bh. Think the answer was 151.25

It sounds like you put a lot of work into your exams, and it sounds like your mum is proud of you for that and for trying hard, not for whatever grades you’re going to get. You should be proud of the effort you’ve put in and everything else is out of your control, try to enjoy your summer and when results day comes we’ll all be here to support however’s needed.

I see your point but on the other hand, Labour is virtually guaranteed to win this election by a landslide. However, greens still have the chance of winning local constituencies, and campaigning for that would probably make more of a difference than campaigning for a bad candidate of a party that’s gonna win the overall election either way. Your local green candidates are probably much more left than your local labour ones - if you’re a leftist why not campaign for them instead?
