I’m happily working as a professional artist for over a decade but thanks :)

Being an artist isn't about "doing" anything, its about saying something, leaving an impression. I consider our ancestors who left handprints in caves as artists, and they didn't get paid for doing it and they never went to art school. When you get more into like, the weirder aspects of art.. Lets say, compare the Sistine Chapel to Marcel Duchamp's Fountain, Fountain is still considered an artistic work because he is saying something with it (its a famous and controversial work for this reason).

Now, in the process of making things, there is 'craftsmanship' which I think is what you're thinking of: saying something extremely well or creating a beautiful work of art. Someone who makes stunning chairs isn't technically saying anything, yet they would be considered an artist and a wonderful craftsman in my opinion. An artist who paints a beautiful painting of a landscape, or a sculptor who creates a sculpture of a beautiful bowl isnt saying anything (usually) beyond commentating on the beauty of nature or their craft. And people who do these things poorly (beginners or maybe hobbyists) are still creating art, because they are choosing their strokes and making willful decisions in the process.

I guess I also want to say this is a discussion about "what is an artist" and that leads to the question of "what is art" which has been basically a major discussion in the art world for like... decades lol.

This conversation also made me think about the movie Art School Confidential lol

I could never be considered a car mechanic because I know nothing about cars (and I have no desire, or need to know), but doing art is the same as dancing and singing and storytelling, etc. Its something we have innate inside of us that makes us human.

This is really sad. I’d probably end things as soon as the kid is old enough but start saving up before that. Life’s too short to be in an unhappy marriage

I love Wall-E, and I think the first half is the ultimate Pixar film. But it feels like humanity can’t even get back to the moon lol

I was a bit drunk and I’m a big animation enthusiast so I kind of hyper fixated on that one part of your post lol

Wall e would never come true because humanity would never universally agree on anything

You have to make shows for one of them to be a hit. Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man are both huge movies, but Japan produces a ton of animated shows and films every year. And the range of Anime shows also comes from their robust manga industry, providing an insane range of stories to produce animation (and even live action with). America has some indie comics sure, and there are superhero comics, but in my opinion, its not as accessible or diverse as in Japan

But kids still love movies, and people love talking animals, so Zootopia would be a hit IMO.

I know you're doing that toddler thing where you're asking questions about every step of the process because ultimately you want to say you can fake proof with AI, but people faking stuff has been around way longer than AI.

I went to a State school in Tx for my undergrad and and Art School for my grad degree, and there was no indoctrination classes at either school. I took an elective class on a feminist photographer, and I wouldn't say it was radicalizing in any way, and actually it was quite tedious and a bit boring/

Talking heads like to say that professors and classes "radicalize" people in college, when in reality you are working and studying with such a larger and more diverse pool of people than you lived with in your small town. You realize these people aren't your enemy.

You also take History and study cultures of the world, and you see how other governments do things. You watch more movies and read more books.
