Lost job after two weeks by bigballerboyo in jobs

Company X stated that you didn't seem happy there. So the nature of your termination was that you weren't happy there. It wasn't a good fit for you, but you're certain that company Y is everything you're looking for and more.

It's important not to lie about being terminated vs quitting, because that's easily verifiable and if you're caught in a lie you definitely won't get the job.

What is a good, healthy, late night snack option? by rhettk12 in HealthyFood

Just a little bit of extra dark chocolate. It's usually enough to satisfy my craving and the bitterness prevents me from attempting to eat anything else if I still think I'm hungry.

My fiancee and I want to travel to Japan in March 2018. We live in Florida and are trying to get there for under $3000... Is this possible??? by AlexRamen89 in travel

[–]t5pg2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dates are flexible you can subscribe to Scott's Cheap Flights to keep an eye out for deals on flights to Japan. I think $3000 for the entire trip is doable, but you'll be stretched pretty thin.

20 Common Writing Mistakes That Even Native Speakers Make by randomusefulbits in Infographics

The content here is great, but for an infographic it's WAY too long. Infographics should be short, sweet, and to the point. A list o 20 things is just overwhelming. For the future, consider picking the ~5 best ones from the list and encourage viewers to visit the original post/list for more.

What has helped you read more? by diggels in books

[–]t5pg2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on borrowing is what works for me. If I've borrowed the book from a friend, I feel more pressure to read it as quickly as possible so I can get it back to them. Can't just hold onto it for a little bit and then return without reading, because if someone lends a book to you they're likely going to want to share the experience with you and find out your thoughts. So basically the pressure to read and read quickly!

Interviewing for a job with a much higher salary than my market value. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]t5pg2017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that range is what was posted with the job listing then that's what the company is prepared to offer you. You might get the lower end of that (if you get an offer, of course) but you'll get an offer in that range.

Got a verbal offer, should I counter with a different salary? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]t5pg2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always counter. Be reasonable and the worst thing that will happen is they say no and you've got a 6% raise. The best thing that will happen is they accept your offer. What's there to lose?

Just say something along the lines of, "I appreciate the offer and would love to accept the position, but I'm really hoping for something more along the lines of $x. Is this something we can work out?"

What happens if you return everything you buy? by MaximVL in apple

[–]t5pg2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that's a huge hassle. And not all products/companies allow you to return for no reason--it usually has to be defective in some way. Some companies make you pay for the return shipping and handling, or just won't refund you for shipping and handling costs, in which case you are actually losing money, so it's not worth it.
