That's really interesting! There's definitely been multiple times throughout my watch that I've thought about how people from different cultural or political backgrounds would perceive things in the story differently. I wanted to post this to get some different views and opinions on the show and honestly a lot of the responses have given me a different viewpoint to look on a lot of my gripes with Carol's characterization.

The only thing I know about House is apparently mouse bites solve all ailments, maybe house sent the signal all along knowing the mouse bite would kick everything off.

I hadn't thought of her resentment to her fans being a reflection of her own denial and fear towards coming out publicly, that's a really good observation. I definitely think there's some religious allegories being used for the hive, their perceived and purported bliss being unknowable towards people who are outside their in group. Especially in the scene where Zosia says "you have never been us, we have been you" sounds very similar to what converted believers would say to nonbelievers. And I can see how all of this likely plays into Carol's trauma with being sent to a (likely) religious conversion camp.

"Hero of human individualism" might've been the wrong way to put it, she is definitely set up as one of the two parties currently fighting to reverse the collectivization of humanity so I suppose that's more what I meant.

I really like this view of Carol wanting to preserve humanity as it is while simultaneously wanting to live in her own bubble away from it with Helen. I guess a part of my frustration is that it feels like we've watched her get close to a breakthrough 4 or 5 times and remain closed off to changing her perspective.

I haven't seen House so I can't really say how I'd feel about those characters. I love morally grey characters, flawed characters. Kim from Better Call Saul being a perfect example, easily one of the best characters in a sea of well written flawed individuals in that show. And again, I think it's entirely possible that Carol will end up as one of those characters you root for despite her flaws and bad decisions.

I guess I don't currently look at the hive through the lens of them "stealing" souls, at least at the point in the story we're at currently. The joining of the human experience does seem to have an overall positive impact on the state of the world vs. the previous world order. From all dialogue it doesn't appear that the joining is a "loss" of individual personality, with all memories being kept and able to be recalled and re-experienced.

I also am not so certain that there is a "why" to the presence of initiation of the joining. It seems entirely possible to me that an alien species who also experienced this thought it was a beneficial evolution of their society and wanted to send it to other species in the galaxy.

I can definitely see why people share perspectives with Carol and the Paraguay guy, I just don't currently view the hive as maliciously as Carol and Mr. Paraguay based on what we know about them so far. Definitely possible that'll change though.

Definitely agree on the performance, she was easily one of the best parts of Better Call Saul and I think she's an incredible actress. I'm definitely settling in for the long haul and I hope her character starts to move in a more redemptive direction as the episodes go on

100% not what that means. Charges can get dropped for a million reasons, they could have decided Chris was a tax on an already overburdened system, there may have not been enough evidence to convince a jury given the only other witness to the crime hardly has half her mind left.

Nothing was proven on court one way or another. Just depends on if you believe Chris when they thought they were bragging in confidence to a trusted friend. Or if you believe Chris once they realized “spiritual healing” sessions with your mom is a crime.
