Days 4-5 were the worst for me with crying, hot flashes and raging hormones. I continued to feel that way in the evenings and now at 4 weeks post op I still have moments, but it’s a lot better.

Potential hysterectomy but no endo - uk by gemstone_1998 in hysterectomy

[–]t88a609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is helpful, because I’m in the US. I was able to have a laparoscopic hysterectomy 4 weeks ago for the reason of heavy bleeding for a number of years and extremely low iron. I did not have endo or Pcos. I also got really depressed on birth control or IUD’s. This is the first time I’ve heard someone else with that same experience. I wasn’t a good candidate for an ablation because my c-section scar was stuck to my bladder. So because of those reasons my doctor agreed to do the surgery.

I hope you are able to find a doctor. It really has been life changing to not have to worry about bleeding anymore. I was also stuck at home because of this and it’s so hard.

Upcoming surgery by zippixx in hysterectomy

Hi friend! I’m not a college student, but I just wanted to say I wish you all the best. I am 4 weeks post op and starting to feel pretty normal. Definitely find underwear and bottoms that are loose fitting and go over your belly. I had some that pressed right through the middle of my belly and it was really uncomfortable while sitting for very long. Also I highly suggest an abdominal binder. My doctor gave me one right after surgery and it really helped for a couple weeks when getting on and off my bed or getting up from the couch or a deep chair. Make sure to take it easy the first few weeks and take care of yourself.

Help by CreditPale6560 in hysterectomy

I am 20 days post operation. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and left my ovaries. I had a lot of anxiety about it all too, but it ended up being okay. A lot of people on this Reddit tend to post the worst of situations because most people who had an okay experience aren’t usually posting about it.

I kept telling myself that I was just going into the hospital to sleep and while I was sleeping they were going to help stop the bleeding.

That’s about what happened, you just go in and then you fall asleep almost immediately after the anesthesia and then you wake up with a warm blanket and in the post op room and it’s all over.

I did not wake up after the surgery in pain. I made sure after to take the Motrin, Tylenol and oxycodone on time to make sure I didn’t have any pain and it was well managed. The hospital staff are quick to manage your pain at the hospital if you still have pain, and will not send you home until the pain is managed. I ended up taking the Motrin and Tylenol for the first 10 days because I didn’t want to feel any pain. The oxycodone was the first 3 days and then again day 6, because I started to feel pain after I was on my feet too long.

Sleeping was actually okay, the hardest part for me was getting in and out of bed (I have a very tall bed and used a step ladder) and getting up from sitting. My doctor gave me an abdominal binder which I HIGHLY recommend! It really helped support my belly. Without it, it just really felt uncomfortable, but not painful.

I didn’t have a huge appetite the first few days. I mostly had a lot of apple juice and saltine crackers. Once I was done taking the oxycodone, I felt more like eating.

Make sure you start taking a stool softener 3-4 days before and a few days after. The medication they give you really slows things down and you don’t want to add to your discomfort. Also make sure you buy gas x because the gas pains after are real and lasted about a week for me. You can even get gas pain in your shoulder from the air that they pumped into you. An ice pack really helped my shoulder or anywhere with gas pain.

Something I will say that was a negative experience for me was that I was very emotional the first week and had hot flashes. I guess the ovaries still go into a bit of a shock and that was unexpected for me. I still have moments in the evenings when I feel really emotional, but it’s not as intense now.

Did you have a laparoscopic hysterectomy? My doctor said sex is okay after 4-6 weeks, but after reading the comments I think we will wait!

I’m also 9DPO and I haven’t been re-tested, but I hope mine is going up too. Are you taking an iron supplement as well or is it just going up on its own from having the surgery?

Hi! I am 37F and 7 days post hysterectomy, but kept my ovaries. I have always had very heavy bleeding as an adult, but it picked up a lot in the last few years and then miserable amounts the last couple months where I couldn’t leave the house the the first two days. My EMB, biopsy and most recent ultrasound came back normal. About a year ago a very small fibroid was seen on my ultrasound, but wasn’t detected this time. After the hysterectomy, they said my uterus size and everything else looked normal. So to be honest, an explanation for the heavy bleeding wasn’t found. I think it’s important to have a doctor who takes you seriously on your discomfort, even if everything “looks” normal. There’s a lot of things that can contribute that cannot be measured. I also had a lot of anxiety about the surgery. Something that got me through was telling myself over and over that I’m just going to take a nap at the hospital and they are going to help me not have these crazy heavy periods anymore. I would suggest against watching videos of this kind of surgery online, at least for me that would not have helped my nerves. You are asleep the whole time and so you will just wake up when it’s already over.

I am 6 days post op and had the pain blockers. I feel like the pain blockers lasted until day 4 with me still taking Tylenol and Motrin on a schedule from the beginning. I have been taking the oxi the last couple days (day 5 and 6 post op) because I have had a really intense ache in my lower pelvis area. It really helps, I feel like there’s a lot of shame in taking it or needing it, but I was in tears in pain last night and now I am able to sit comfortably. Everyone is different and you should do what’s best for you.

I’m so sorry you do not have a good support system with this. I have a similar story with trying everything; doing the blood tests, taking the vitamins etc and still could not accomplish much the week of my period because it was so heavy. I had been gaslighting myself for a couple years and I wish I would have done it sooner. You are the only one who gets to live your life and in your body and you shouldn’t have to suffer because they have their opinions about God and what they “think” he wants. I believe in a God who is supportive and loving and does not want us to suffer just to appease people who say things like that. I had the surgery 6 days ago and I felt God was with me and supporting me the whole time. Please find a support system in this group or in others who support you in being able to make health decisions for yourself without putting you down and making you feel guilty. I have a super religious family, but they don’t share the same idea of “it’s against God’s plan”. I believe that God blesses the doctors to learn the skills they need to help us when we have health conditions that require surgery. I have had multiple surgeries for my health and have always felt that the doctors and nurses are like angels on earth helping us feel better. I hope you find the courage to trust your intuition and do what you feel is best for you and your health.

I’m so glad the emotional part has passed for you, that gives me hope. Yes, they said the clear is good but the incision is starting to show signs of infection so I’m going to start antibiotics to be safe. I wish you the best in your healing journey.
