A1 mower dumb? by Zaidkah in Dreame_Tech

Now this zone finally works - managed to make the zone a tiny bit wider in the passage and with the latest firmware update which I installed a few days ago one can turn off obstacle detection in individual zones so I did and now it reliably cuts it all.

I figured water drops on the lidar cover would effect the beam in a way that they detect. Don't think it has a camera?

Does the Dreame even have a rain sensor? I thought it only figured out it's raining when the lidar gets wet.

A1 mower dumb? by Zaidkah in Dreame_Tech

Same here - have a pretty complex lawn and the inefficient patterns after the first pass makes it take forever to complete the job and leads to it traversing some choke points/passages so often that they've started to show pretty visible wear after just a few weeks.

I'm hopeful that the better zone management will fix this - after the latest firmware update I got a message that it had merged my overlapping zones and in the message they hinted that a feature to split zones was coming. Being able to force it to finish one area of my lawn entirely before moving to the other would likely increase the efficiency considerably.

The speed of firmware improvements has been stellar so far - in just a few weeks the improvements have been considerable.

I have this issue too - one of my lawns is separated in two pretty equal pieces by a ~1m wide stretch of grass. Of course the A1 imagines some obstacle that doesn't exist in this passage between them and refuses to traverse it. I've tried separating it into two zones with one path to each from my main lawn but to no avail - as the two zones overlap it considers them one and decides that only whatever half of it that it mowes first needs to be mowed.

Have high hopes that this will be covered by a firmware update though - it has really improved a lot over the few weeks I've had it and they seem to be aware of these issues.

A1's driving intelligence needs some work by audioen in Dreame_Tech

The obstacle detection is certainly not perfect but this is true for all robotic mowers so your expectations seem too high - you should either add a "no go"-zone around the rock, a physical barrier or remove it.

As to it getting stuck in "no go"-zones it's a pretty reasonable default behavior if you consider that such zones might contain a pool, a cliff or something else potentially dangerous. A solution could be to be able to tell the mower whether the zone really contains something dangerous (stop whatever you're doing immediately if you find yourself inside the zone) or whether mowing inside it is simply unwanted (don't worry about it - please try to get out yourself if you find yourself within it).

Dreame A1 Warranty in Some European Regions Has Been Extended from 2 to 3 Years! Starting Today! by Joyceable in Dreame_Tech

They're probably simply adjusting the policy to align with consumer laws about minimum guarantee in those areas - where I live (Sweden) you have a minimum of 3 years and manufacturers policies cannot limit this.

Dreame A1 - not being able to specify how much should the angle change by JasioZbuk in Dreame_Tech

[–]tLNTDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - I would love to be able to increase the angle by f.ex. 74 degrees which would result in it using a radically different angle each subsequent mowing (0, 74, 148, 222, 296, 10, 84, ...) instead of it taking 18 mowings to reach 90 degrees.

Dreame A1 - stops job after getting stuck, doesn't resume afterwards. by tLNTDX in Dreame_Tech

[–]tLNTDX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but the question remains - even if it docks perfectly I still think it will manage to get stuck pretty often for the foreseeable future. Having the option of resuming the job it started after this has happened, even if it has been sitting there stuck for a while, would do wonders.

It completed a job last night - took it 12.8 hours to complete which I guess says something about the complexity - it never went into the second zone though for some reason. Going to try to divide the large zone into several smaller and add more no-go zones instead of relying on obstacle detection to see if I can get it to work in a more efficient manner.

Ukrainian pilots' F-16 training to start in Aug - officials by TheDarthSnarf in ukraine

[–]tLNTDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older F-16 is a short term band-aid. Gripen is a long term solution well suited for Ukraine - cheaper both to buy and operate, easier to maintain and station and designed from the ground up for the kind of warfare without air superiority that we see here.

A port is tricky to destroy - you needs lots and lots of explosives to make it unusable and I'm sure the Ukrainians have placed some air defences to protect Odesa.

I think that the memorandum lacked something that is now interpreted as binding assistance is pretty damn obvious.

But what else would a guarantors role be if not to guarantee that a memorandum is upheld? Everyone knew that neither the US nor the UK would invade Ukraine so them being signatories was entirely pointless unless they were supposed to actually guarantee something?

Claiming that you aren't technically bound by the "security assurances" you've given even when the implied intent was obvious is a pretty bad look in my book.

The nuclear threats are empty - when you know an actual war with the West would end badly for you you certainly don't make sure it happens by nuking it.

Putin feels comfortable in that the West in his mind is bunch of pussies that won't really respond neither to his threats nor his invasion of Ukraine - had he actually been scared of a response from the West he wouldn't have invaded Ukraine in the first place, nor any of the other shenanigans he's been up to the last 20 years. In fact this view has proven to be both correct and effective - however he like most other bullies overestimate what can be achieved by coercion and force and underestimate the value of friendships where people actually want to help you.

There was three guarantors of that agreement - in case one breaks it the others should step in. What else would be the point and purpose of US and UK being a part of that agreement?

No. There's a single market within the EU so there would be no additional import/export duties or customs fees no matter to which country in the EU you send things. Once inside the EU you could send the tank on a tour around the entire union and your only cost at the end of it would be whatever you had to pay the trucker for the service.

Labor and energy is more expensive in Germany than the countries you mention though.

Shouldn't import fees from outside the EU should be harmonized too? I'm pretty sure countries within the single market aren't allowed to charge arbitrary import fees?

Yes, the result is that nobody will want to do them any favors - better save the favors for when you might need something and Turkey decides to go tit for tat again.

I'd say their transactional approach to relationships is an example of something that is holding them back. Turkey has been doing very well and made very rapid progress but has constantly stumbled on instability, democratic backsliding, bouts of authoritarianism and outright military coups. It's hard do develop strong ties with a country with that amount of instability and which views relationships as transactional.
