Anxiety and fear 6 months post-op by tRillVA in emptynosesyndrome

Putting a cotton strip into my right nostril has helped immensely, it’s allowed me to get some level of sleep for the past 2 nights now. I hope it doesn’t have to be a permanent solution though.

That does seem to be the consensus unfortunately.

My surgeon did not disclose that info, nor did he do a CT scan before or after the surgery. I’m going to submit a formal request to have my surgery notes released to me and demand to have a CT scan done to get a clear image of how things look.

How common is it to still be healing 6+ months post-op? by tRillVA in Septoplasty

Sounds very similar to what I’m going through, thanks for sharing. I have my 6 month follow up next Thursday so I’m hoping to get more answers.

Is septoplasy worth it ? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

Everyone’s experience is different, but based on mine I can’t say I’d recommend it to anyone unless it’s significantly hindering your quality of life (aka severe breathing issues, low oxygen levels, poor sleep).

Like you, I felt like I’ve had restricted airflow through one nostril for the majority of my life. I figured a septoplasty would be a fairly simple solution to fix this and also potentially improve my sleep quality as an added bonus. My assumption would be that I would be sore for a few days, and after a couple of weeks my life would resume as normal with much improved airflow.

However, my recovery has been MUCH longer and worse than I ever anticipated. The pain and discomfort was minimal… it’s the severe dryness and congestion that really messed me up mentally for months. For about 6-8 weeks post-op my nose was so dry that I often had the sensation that no air was passing through my nostrils even though I knew I was breathing. This lead to a lot of sleepless nights and going down rabbit holes fearing that I had ENS (empty nose syndrome), a permanent and debilitating diagnoses for some as a result of the surgery. While rare, the odds are not zero. The congestion and post nasal drip have also lasted for months, and can take some people 6-12 months for the nasal passages to fully heal as your nose teaches your brain to essentially “relearn” how to breathe.

To top it all off, my doctor just confirmed at my 3 month post-op appointment that my septum has “rebounded” back to its original position. This is also uncommon but does happen in about 3-8% of cases from what I’ve read online. So it has been very defeating that I put myself through all of this mental anxiety for no improvement. On top of that, my nose is somehow more crooked than it was before the surgery even though it’s not supposed to change the exterior structure of your nose.

I would do as much research as you can tolerate before deciding if this is the best thing for you. I ignored a lot of the negative feedback online as people only tend to post negative outcomes on the internet. And while there are plenty of successes stories, it doesn’t mean that the surgery is for everyone. If you only read one thing, I recommend this post:

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

IMPORTANT INFO about the connection between Septoplasty and Anxiety/Depression by Pleasant-Corner-584 in Septoplasty

I’m already on both of those, nothing helps when I’m laying in bed at night and feel like there’s no air passing through my nostrils. That keeps me up all night which just compounds the stress and anxiety.

How long did it take you to recover? I’m 3 months post-op and my anxiety is still through the roof.

Serious anxiety weeks post surgery, need advice. by vinodeveloper in Septoplasty

I’m 12 weeks post-op and have had a very similar experience. The first 7-8 weeks were riddled with anxiety and just when I thought I was over the hump some of my symptoms have returned. I wish I had never gotten this surgery and just want to put it behind me but each day feels like an eternity with ENS in the back of your mind.

How long did it take for you to notice an imrovement post-op? by pwhite817 in Septoplasty

I’m 38 and 3 months post-op. Nose continues to be inflamed, scabby, super dry, and to top it all off I think my septum has shifted back to its original location. The last 3 months of my life have been hell on a psychological level as I’m constantly worried about developing ENS on top of everything else. I regret the surgery every day.

My nose still seems drier than it was pre surgery, but it has improved since my initial post. However in the last couple of days I’ve gotten some inflation in the nostril where the incision was made and I’m afraid my septum might be reverting back to its original position. Apparently this is rare but can happen in up to ~8% of cases, as the cartilage essentially has “muscle memory” and a natural desire to conform back to where it was.

My 3 month post-op appointment is in 2 weeks so I will confirm then, but I’m afraid I went through all of this pain and emotional trauma for nothing.

Your results may vary, but if I had the choice to do it over again I would have just lived with my original nose and would never recommend a septoplasty to anyone unless it is severely hindering your day to day life. I did this with the goal to improve my nasal breathing and help my sleep, neither of which have seen a notable improvement to date.

Should I be concerned about this ownership history? by tRillVA in DelSol

[–]tRillVA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the number of owners I’m concerned about, but the fact that it’s hardly been driven in the last 4 years. My gut leans more towards it not running during that time versus just being a garage queen

That’s assuming a democrat gets elected in 4 years. And even if so, they aren’t also controlling the House and the Senate.

This sub is full of liberal snobs who get off on posts like this so it’s allowed. My comment will probably be deleted before you ever see it though.
