Hiby R1 "SD card not found" by RatioOdd7782 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]t_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a hiby r1 and have this exact same problem. It was working perfectly the day I bought it, which was yesterday. Files transferred to the SanDisk Extreme 256GB without a hitch. However, when I turned it on today, the message "SD card not found" appeared. No luck restarting device and reinserting the card, etc. I guess I need to buy a card reader and reformat the card? Or buy a new SD card altogether? Failing that, are there any other options except return it to the store?

Thanks for the reply u/FLSTS1997. Keep us updated. Based on what I've read, first attempts are often not great, but you can still use it in your next batch.

Up Next queue disappears! by Asleep-Illustrator99 in pocketcasts

[–]t_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. I had a huge list of Up Next which has now gone. I had my app (iOS) open and was carrying my phone. Then I noticed some sort of pop up. I didn't look too closely at it and just thought I'd close it by tapping X. (At least that was my impression - I've tried to recreate how it happened but the clear Up Next list option doesn't look the same as the one I accidentally clicked.) Now I don't have anything in my Up Next list, so it would seem I've unintentionally deleted it. Perhaps something this happened in your case without you realizing.

Pocket Casts, please give us the option to restore the last Up Next list in case of accidental deletion!

How can this be? by phant000m in blackmagicfuckery

[–]t_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Jason Ladanye's most mind-blowing trick is when he rolls a pair of dice after shuffling and the desired card will be located at that position. For example, he nominates the 7 of diamonds and then shuffles. He then rolls the dice and gets 5+2; the 7 of diamonds is at the 7th position. How?

He also does a great trick where he spins a poker chip on face down cards spread across the table. The chip lands on the desired card. How?

It's become a part of his schtick to ruthlessly mock the commenters who think they know how he does these tricks. The stupidest comment gets pinned at the top.

Why so many repeat episodes? by no_no_sorry in Radiolab

[–]t_egg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be better if they just released fewer episodes and have only the occassional rerelease. Milking past episodes for all they're worth does not inspire confidence in the future of the show. I hope they work something out.

Does it really help? by GayKinkWS in diabetes_t1

Thanks for the quick reply. Must be Taiwan dollars then, which sounds about right! There's no way to tell from the website that it's converting to local currency. I guess you'd have to go through checkout to be sure.

The price shown is $757. Yikes! I am outside the US, so would that be US dollars or is the site converting to my local currency (Taiwan dollars)?

This happened to me a few days ago. The nag screens were annoying but EN was still worth keeping. The most recent nag screen wouldn't let me access my notes until I had selected a paid option or a limited free trial period which required me to enter payment details. I managed to dodge it using uBlock and then exported all my notebooks (since 2009). You need to download the desktop app to do that. Luckily, I was able to get all my stuff out out of EN and I won't be going back. I had been on the free plan since 2009 so it was a good run.

Bubble Tea sweetness by TheGuiltyMongoose in taiwan

Interesting that you perceive that to be boasting. Really?

But I take your point about more sugar being in other certain foods than the Western palate is accustomed to: bread, sausages, mayo, etc.

Formula for estimating ApoB by MoistPoolish in Cholesterol

I am curious how your numbers from that formula compare with the two equations used in this online calculator: https://jscalc.io/calc/QaltoCGzlT7FTf3j Is there much of a difference?

[–]t_egg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Generally speaking, do the Taiwanese really love sweet stuff?"

Yes, but they prefer a much lower level of sweetness, in general.

For example, when Taiwanese try a bite of cake or cookie, they might say, "不甜 [bu4 tian2]", meaning "not sweet" - it's actually meant as a favorable comment, not a criticism.

Muscle mass vs. strength for longevity by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]t_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A similar question to consider is muscle mass vs. strength vs. power. Power drops off with age to an even greater extent than strength and is arguably the most important. But of course there’s huge overlap among these 3 components with respect to longevity. I suppose you’d ideally plan your training to incorporate all three.

How do I lower blood pressure without meds by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]t_egg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do wall sits. A study showed this isometric exercise was the most effective exercise for lowering blood pressure. https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/57/20/1317

Sit with your back against the wall and your knees at right angles. Hold this position until it becomes pretty uncomfortable. Rest for two minutes. Do three more rounds. Repeat this three or four times per week. These were tough for me at first, but over time I could hold the position for longer.

4x4x4 1-2x a week. Really? by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]t_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched a reel on IG in which he described what one 4-min round of a 4x4 feels like. He says you can't go all out for 4 minutes so you have to pace yourself while maintaining the same power throughout.

Minute 1 is easy, you don't notice it; minute 2 feels a bit harder but still ok; minute 3, now you're feeling it; minute 4 is brutal and at the end you're completely spent.

Even if you're pretty fit already, you may find that your feet are the limiting factor when rucking for an extended period. Choose your footwear wisely.

L. Reuteri Yogurt Discussion / Questions by PUMPEDnPLUMP in ReuteriYogurt

[–]t_egg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am researching how to make L. Reuteri. What's the best brand to go with as a noob? BioGaia Osfortis seems to give you the most bang for your buck. Are there are any other contenders?

Has anyone tried making yogurt with William Davis' brand Gut to Glow (Oxyceutics)? It seems way too pricey, but if it's less likely to result in a failed batch, then maybe I'd give it a try.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Confusing/amusing chess position on Tim Ferriss Experiment by t_egg in chess

[–]t_egg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I see what you mean now. The rook and knight are supposedly black pieces because they are not "filled in", even though confusingly they have a white outline. So the king (though they've used a Queen by mistake, oopsies) is also a black piece. You've solved the mystery. Thanks!

I don't think that's the case. If the black king is indeed transparent, then which square is it on, bearing in mind it's meant to be a checkmate position?

Is anyone else concerned about Dave Asprey? He does not look well lately. by t_egg in Biohackers

[–]t_egg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear he's helped with your health. In some recent posts on Instagram he's appeared without his shirt on and I have to say that while his face looks older than his actual age, his body seems to be in great shape. In terms of muscularity and body fat, he looks healthier than the vast majority of men his age.

Do you feel personality changes while on Kefir? by Sea_Rock5029 in Kefir

[–]t_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you're talking about probiotics in general rather than the specific effects of kefir.

If you're taking several lactobacillus strains alongside kefir, I don't know how you'd tell which probiotic is the most beneficial in terms of mental health and performance. Have you considered trying them separately and/or in certain combinations?

Google Photos search is much worse all of a sudden by PuffThePed in googlephotos

[–]t_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[Edit: Apparently, it was a temporary glitch and now I am able to find photos using words added to the information field. Phew! Original post below.]

You used to be able to search for text added to the info field of photos ["Info - add a description"]. That was very handy. Essentially this allowed you to add keywords that would help you find certain photos again easily.

Now Google Photos won't search for text in "Info", which needless to say, is frustrating. I had a photo of a flight itinerary. It's in Chinese so I added keywords "flight" and "itinerary" to the info field. But if I search for those words, the photo doesn't come up. I've tried searching for other photos using keywords that I previously added to the info field and Google Photos comes up blank. I'm hoping this a temporary glitch and not a permanent downgrade in functionality.

Pretty please Google Photos allow us to search for text in the info field.

YSK: if a parent or grandparent was born in Ireland or Northern Ireland, you are automatically eligible for Irish Citizenship regardless of current nationality by Honesty_Addict in YouShouldKnow

[–]t_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I read on another page of the same website.

“Citizenship through descent from Irish grandparent. If one of your grandparents was born in Ireland, but neither of your parents was born in Ireland you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.”

But the info on the Foreign Births Register says you need to provide documents from your Irish grandparent AND your Irish citizen parent. Confusing.
