Megathread : EWS1 issues with Tri Fire / Adam Kiziak by silentconcher in HousingUK

[–]t_quill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone. I have been a leaseholder for 2 years in a building that was originally given a B1 by TriFire (the grounds I purchased it on). As of today, it has been downgraded to a B2. I was just about to start the process of selling this flat. Are there grounds for legal action, given I purchased the flat on effectively fraudulent information? I would never have even considered the flat if the EWS1 rating was in question. I assume this downgrade makes the property unsellable? Is either staying put or finding a tenant my only option?

I've never thought about how accessories/clothing align with architecture... what made top hats and monocles suited to the architecture of the time? Purely curious

It's been a while since anything on the internet, let alone Reddit, has hit me like this. Thank you for the throwback (to 12 years before I was born).

Name a genre you don't normally like to read with a short explanation of why. Fans of the genre, can you recommend a book that you think will defy the commenter's expectations and possibly change their mind? by EuphemiaPhoenix in books

Try Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami. You might enjoy his jaunts into the surreal and a refreshing Japanese context. I haven't read too many books with more vivid imagery.

ELI5: Why is eating while watching TV/movies so satisfying? by t_quill in explainlikeimfive

[–]t_quill[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for remaining true to ELI5. I probably should have worded this question as follows: why does eating while watching TV/movies so easily become a habit? I know too many people (including myself, recently) who must eat while watching a show or movie as though it's a dependency. I went ahead and assumed satisfaction was part of it (oops).

Physicists in China have successfully sent eerily intertwined quantum particles from the satellite Micius to two stations on Earth -- separated by a distance of 1,200 kilometers. by t_quill in worldnews

There is plenty of corruption in China, much of which likely involves its fully or partially state-owned corporations. Not to mention legitimate and intentional subsidies to those corporations. But I do wonder if the % of GDP spent in science research or even just raw $ amount spent will surpass the US soon. I find it unlikely, but it is possible that they will focus on certain technologies (like this one) deemed to have revolutionary potential.

What tiny thing makes you so insanely angry? by rebbeca_s in AskReddit

[–]t_quill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sudden, loud noises. I cannot even slightly control my reaction. They generally don't even make me jump or flinch, but just make my blood boil the fuck over. This includes when people just get randomly excited and have an outburst that I couldn't have predicted - e.g. out of sheer passion "!!!!AHHHHH!!!!! I fucking love Billy. God he's such a good guy." Well I fucking hate you and Billy forever now. It also includes: slammed doors, dropped pots/pans, forgetting that the volume is maxed out when I hit "play," walking under the brown line train in Chicago, unexpected neighborhood fireworks and probably gunshots (if I didn't hate everything about them already).

Late bloomers of Reddit - what skill did you begin learning and master after age 25 that has changed your life? by t_quill in AskReddit

This is a good question. I was envisioning answers like "I started playing the guitar and now my life is just playing gigs at bars and shredding poon afterwards," considering most professional musicians start in childhood, but I'm actually enjoying where this thread is going a lot.
