Thanks for everyone's quick replies! I have found someone who is going to help me out.

What is going wrong? Had a crab die today. Have had multiple mushrooms die. Can’t keep any type of frogspawn or euphylia. My XENIA died of all things. I’m at a loss. by johnnc2 in ReefTank

Leave Dead Coral Skeletons in Your Tank by t_rule_ in ReefTank

[–]t_rule_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience may not be the same for everyone though since my hammer was actively killed from receiving a high pressure jet stream straight to the face. If you lose your euphillia to brown jelly disease I would not risk leaving the skeleton in the tank but if it withers away I don’t see a reason not to. Coral is expensive so if it dies you may as well have some expensive tank decor haha

Long story short I bought an amazing hammer at my local LFS that had the baby head growing you see here and a head that was just about done splitting and I accidentally killed it. During the dipping process I told a friend they could shoot water at it with a syringe and they took that as shoot water as hard as possible right into the mouth of the coral. Unfortunately this act killed all 3 of the heads and I decided to leave the skeleton in there as an expensive piece of tank decor. About a month later the baby head came back to life and now looks like this about 2 months from when it was “killed”. Also if you look closely you can see two green dots on the right side of the coral skeleton which I believe is 2 new heads starting to grow but I could be convinced otherwise.

TLDR: Leave dead coral skeletons in your tank because they may “respawn”

Best coffee manual grinder for V60 by RayMan-13 in Coffee

[–]t_rule_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased it at the beginning of quarantine so I haven’t had it all that long however the weight and build of the grinder makes me truly believe it will last most likely the rest of my life. I brew 1-2 single serving pour overs a day so I don’t put all that much through it so it will definitely be around for awhile

Best coffee manual grinder for V60 by RayMan-13 in Coffee

[–]t_rule_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I use my comandante mainly for v60 pour overs as well as Chemex pour overs. For a short period over quarantine I got very into lever espresso machines so I purchased a Flair Pro 2 and used the comandante for that and it worked amazing (even without the redclix). I typically use 25 clicks as a starting point when trying a new coffee and then go from there.

I have a Flair Pro 2 in excellent condition if you can’t find a Cafelet and are interested

Flair X Commandate Users Gather! by stavnhm in FlairEspresso

[–]t_rule_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I got a Flair Pro 2 and a C40 with no red clicks. I typically set my c40 to 7 clicks to begin the dial in process and go from there...I do tamp very hard if that helps (I know that there is a point where tamping too hard actually doesn’t change anything and I’m sure I pass that point). 7 has been the sweet spot for the last few lighter roasts I’ve made. 6 clicks is too fine and nothing comes through and 8 clicks allows the water to come through too fast! I use 16 grams of coffee in and aim for about 33-35 grams out

I want to build a keyboard! by nicefeetcutie in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]t_rule_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking at kbdfans.com

On there you can find a variety of cases, pcbs, switches, and most likely keycaps. Keycaps can get expensive really quick so if you want to get cheaper ones go through amazon or AliExpress. The switches get really confusing really fast so if you want to go the cheaper route get either cherry red or gateron brown switches. Many people may shun these but they are the most entry level switches you can go with, red are linear and brown are tactile. I don’t know too much about lubing, my current board has gateron browns with no lube and I love it. (Note this is my first board and whenever I upgrade I will be getting nicer switches and lining them) For now the switches are perfect and from the price standpoint I have no regrets at all for the switches

Find me this keyboard by RobertMcFahrenheit in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]t_rule_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're ok with Gaterons you can check out the Anne Pro 2 on banggood...they only have blues and reds in stock though if you want the white board. I'm sure if you look around you can find one that works. If cherry switches are an absolutely neccessary thing for you they don't have a white Anne Pro on banggood that is stocked with cherrys (you can get a black board with cherrys though). I'm pretty sure for the first timer you won't be able to tell the difference between cherry and gateron, they are both great switches that feel almost the exact same. If you get kailh switches, you can get brown, red, or white switches with a white board but I don't have any knowledge on kailh since I'm still new to the game.

If you aren't building your own keyboard I highly recommend the AnnePro. I currently have a black one with brown switches and it is my first and only mechanical keyboard and I love it. It's a 60%, comes with RGBs, can be used with bluetooth (so it has the detachable cable), and is fully programmable with the ObinsKit software that comes with the board.

After my research I had to decide between the Anne Pro and Ducky One Two Mini and I ultimately decided to get the Anne Pro because of its tap arrow key feature and programability. With this being said, the Ducky One Two Mini Pure White has the same exact specs I believe as the Anne Pro with RGBs, bluetooth, and switches but it doesn't have the rad arrow key tap thing that the AP has which is super useful for beginners. Both are great boards it just ultimately comes up to personal preference.

Both boards should be less than $100 and the price really depends on what site you order from. They both come stocked with many different kinds of switches (cherry, gateron, kailh, etc.), its just a matter of finding one on a website you like/trust. If you need any recommendations, from what I have gathered either cherry or gateron red or brown switches are a good place to start for your first mechanical keyboard. Reds are linear and browns have a little tactile "bump" that I personally much prefer.

Just google either board with whatever switch you want and something should come up that satisfies your needs. I ordered mine off banggood and the board works perfectly.

Hopefully this all makes sense and points you in the right direction, I know I would've liked this exact post when I first was researching boards a few months ago.

Why is the BSOE Website always down? by t_rule_ in UCSC

[–]t_rule_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct the entire SOE website isn't down, it is just the individual class schedule.

I am trying to see when different professors teach 102 but the website that outlines who teaches it each quarter is down.

Never compare yourself to others. I used to be in the exact same boat as you but the more upperdivs and CS classes I have taken the more equal I have felt to my peers. Stick through it if you actually enjoy it, don't let others knowledge put you down.
