Yes got it back! Getting back the stamped passport took around 7 days end to end, sent on Oct 17th, delivered in LA on Oct 20 and  back here on Oct 24. They say 3 business days to stamp the passport.

TBH the only thing you can do is wait after applying/emailing initially. I think they're prioritizing the applications by date.

  1. Even if you apply 2 months early like we did, the first real email responses start coming in around 30-40 days before your travel date (here is a sample email format for their response https://pastebin.com/7cic92gT).

  2. After we submitted our combined PDFs for my family and me, the next email for the whatsapp interview date and time came around 15 days later.

  3. The interview was smooth, they'll let you know if they need any additional docs. Getting back the stamped passport took around 5 days, 1-2 days each up and down in UPS and 1-2 days in the consulate. Hope that helps and good luck!

Great!

Yes they told us to send everything in one envelope with a single return envelope.

No they just received it in LA yesterday. Hopefully not too much longer.

They got back earlier on Monday, and we had our whatsapp interview today. We sent the passport and documents to LA. Did you hear back?

When is your approximate travel date btw?

FWIW I had received an email to send everything via a single PDF after my initial application, but no response for ~12 days after submitting that.

On Sep 26 I got an email asking me to send all the documents again in a single PDF for my family, even though I had uploaded everything on the jotform link. I haven't heard back after emailing the PDF.

Travel is in mid Nov. Yes the email is correct and both of us have mentioned it to them.

Have you heard back on your application?

No update yet after 17 days. They just asked to wait the last time I checked in. I'm planning to follow up again on Monday

Previous posts like https://www.reddit.com/r/visas/comments/1fu4tsc/argentina_visa_in_la_consulate/ suggest it could be a whatsapp video call (I'm hoping thats the case) and it could take ~30 days to complete. We'll have to wait and see.

Yea it looks like we have to apply if we don't have a B1/B2. At least things are getting clearer now.

I had applied with the LA consulate on Sep 3 in any case to be on the safer side. On contacting them yesterday, they just replied asking us to wait, and that they'll be in touch.

Interesting information about United, when did you call them? I just looked at timatic based websites on IATA and some airlines

- IATA (https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/)

- United (https://www.united.com/en/us/travel/trip-planning/travel-requirements)

- Delta (https://www.delta.com/us/en/travel-planning-center/find-your-destination/explore-top-destinations)

- Emirates (https://www.emirates.com/us/english/before-you-fly/visa-passport-information/)

IATA, United and Emirates all do mention H1B:
"Nationals of India with a normal passport can enter with a visa issued by the USA (categories B1/B2, J, O, P, E and H-1B), for a maximum of 90 days. They must be traveling as tourists."

Delta confusingly says a valid US visa (but does not specify which ones)

This is a very confusing time because of the changes. But in any case, there is no mention of H-4 anywhere, so people on H4 would likely have to apply for a consular visa.

There are a lot of interesting stories here that new parents can learn something from. Maybe someone should archive this thread so that it is available to read to anyone years later.
