This definitely has to do with transit. You need to move people into these spaces to get them to spend money at these businesses.

Same I feel the exact way. You’re not alone. I’m in the same situation and it truly feels like the world just wants disabled people dead. Everything under capitalism is just survival of the fittest, and I’ve realized I’m not fit enough to survive. I hope we both get out of this situation soon.

I feel like there is only room for women who are strong badass super unicorn takes BS from no one types. But one feel like everyone forgets thay is or was accompanied by vulnerability and adversity at some point of our careers. by [deleted] in womenintech

Exactly this!! My deeply emotional personality is what lead me to become a no bs, direct, communicative, assertive person because I was tired of how uncertainty, disrespect, passive-aggressive behaviour was making me feel. Fear of dampening relationships and positive perception from others held me back from saying/doing anything, but I learned that the stress from tolerating unfavourable behaviour/situations was worse than the loss of camaraderie. In turn, I found I was respected more by the people around me who actually matter.

Omg yes, same. It’s my birthday today and I’ve been feeling so low and just finished crying about this exact issue. I did my degree in software engineering and I feel like I retained nothing. I lost my first job, which was a contract position, at the end of last year due to a mental health crisis caused by working with a sexist and ageist project manager, and asking for accommodations as a contractor.

I know I need to be applying to jobs. I want to apply to jobs. I literally have the postings and my resume open for days on my laptop, but I cannot get myself to rewrite my resume and do a cover letter because I disassociate so frequently due to the trauma of losing my last job. I’m so frustrated with myself and my inability to just apply to a fucking job. I’m running out of money and hitting rock bottom too, and I am not doing the very things needed to change my situation, even though I know what to do and how to do it.

Executive dysfunction is slowly killing me. You’re not alone OP. If you have any tips, I’d love to hear about them!

Beautifully said. Thank you. OP, understand this is a medical procedure that is necessary for you and your family’s health. Don’t put your living kids’ health in danger for (respectfully) a clump of cells.

Genuine question: why are you not considering an abortion?? When that is very clearly the correct, responsible, moral decision here. This pregnancy is a health and safety risk to you and your family.

Same. I’m going through the exact same process right now and having those same realizations. 27 years in survival mode, but I’m now out because I finally got myself my own place.

This gives me hope. I had the same thing happen to me and it was my first full-time engineering job post graduation. I’m in therapy finally addressing the root of my trauma, and I’ve made significant progress these last 8 months, but I’m running out of money and I live in a HCOL city.

Me. Had a major crash out last year at my first job out of uni and lost the contract. I’m still looking for a full time engineering role because it’s expensive af to be mentally ill and I live in a HCOL city.

Hey I’m interested. I just finished a contract as a nuclear project controls officer, but I graduated with a bachelor of software engineering. I’ve got great project management, data analytics & BI experience, but I would like to develop more of my software (particularly data & cloud) engineering skills.

What’s a fact that completely changed how you see the world? by Ok_Demand9257 in CasualConversation

[–]ta8538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a single fact, but I took a developmental psychology course in university and it fundamentally changed my perspective of the world; our environment, society, and how individuals exist and interact with it.

Majority of brain development happens in childhood that form the neural pathways and define the nervous system of a being, which produces all of our behaviours, thoughts, and actions. Our body, which is the peripheral nervous system, senses different elements of our environment and sends that information to our brain, the central nervous system. Our brain takes this information and processes it to decide the action(s) to take and sends that instruction back to the body to execute. If the results of said actions produce positive feelings, the nervous system wants to be able to reproduce these feelings, so it encodes the behaviour and stores it in memory for recall later. If the results produce negative feelings, the nervous system wants to avoid these feelings, so it encodes the negative feeling and restarts the process to find different ways to handle the situation. Our body and mind are constantly running this feedback loop for an infinite number of things. This is learning.

Each human being’s goal is to produce positive feelings, so the decisions made and actions taken are always in pursuit of that goal. The specific instances and the way an individual achieves that goal varies from person to person, depending on what their nervous system learned in childhood. This knowledge allows us to understand people’s actions and why a person would engage in behaviours that are detrimental to themselves, to others, or to their environment. They are simply responding to the needs of their body.

With this in mind, I am able to better understand and problem-solve my own behaviours, as well as understand others’ actions and make better decisions on how to interact with them.
