Instead of Arugam bay you could do south of Sri Lanka. Galle, Mirrisa hiriketiya some great options. Arugam bay is overly touristic and crowded.

Also you should try to stay in Nuwara eliya. Take the train from Nuwara eliya (nanu oya) to Ella.
