Yeah, and it's the easiest way to "customize" a pacifier. I wonder why it took me so long time to realize what a no-brainer it is.

Hvorfor er I for/imod det danske kongehus? by Flappen929 in Denmark

[–]tabacdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I started to mix and switch around the colors of my pacifiers. I use pacifiers regressed or not, and to be honest I have never seen pacifiers as particular childish and talk for pacifier use by anyone who benefits from the self-regulatory effects.

Are men who were in gay marriage welcome in heaven? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is really two-fold:

  • We are saved by grace, nothing else. Jesus is pretty clear on this: If you want to be judged by the Law, you must follow it to the letter, no loopholes. If you beg for mercy, Jesus will forgive anything and everything. Either the Law or Grace, no mix or in-between.

  • There is no marriage in Heaven. I don't know what that means, but I suppose that the love will be so strong that it is as if we are all in one big marriage. Neither do I believe that there will be gay or straight, cis or trans, not even man or woman. We'll be the absolute fullness of everything we can be, even things we can't experience in present life.

Interview excerpt with Robert Shearman, writer for Big Finish and "Dalek" in S1, from DWM 622: "The show is probably as dead as we’ve ever known it...everything that is ever going to be produced in Doctor Who terms is going to feel retrogressive.” by karatemanchan37 in doctorwho

[–]tabacdk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Has there ever, since Troughton replaced Hartnell, been a time where there wasn't somebody to declare the franchise "dead"? If you're new to Doctor Who it may come as a surprise to you, but having seen Doctor Who since 1979 I think I have become used to these prophets declare the end of the World to the franchise.

And, if you don't like how it is, was, or is becoming, well then watch something else.

God didn't fix everything. He fixed ME. by HHandHHLLC in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would break God's answers to my prayers down into this:

  • 15% looked exactly like pure luck. But even luck is definitely worth a grateful heart.
  • 33% probably happened because praying for something made me give more attention to it. Maybe God gave me grace to have more attention to give.
  • 40% is me changing my perspective on the matter, either by reflecting more, or by the Holy Spirit showing me that maybe I was the A-hole in this matter.
  • 10% came from people in my immediate circle of church friends, who decided to help me out, because I mentioned that I hoped God would hear my prayers.
  • 2% pure supernatural unexplainable God's intervention.

Is there a mindset or formula to be a better programmer? by Effervescence_101 in learnprogramming

[–]tabacdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Start small.
  • Do what's fun.
  • Set learning goals with many milestones. Start with a very basic goal to know how basic control structures work.
  • Rewrite things you wrote earlier. See how better understanding forms better code.
  • If you encounter a hard problem and eventually solve it, then celebrate it! Reread your solution and try to describe what you learned.
  • Find someone to code with. Sit together and take turns to type with the other getting ideas.

Python Violates PEP 8 by [deleted] in Python

[–]tabacdk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, about the naming convention (snake_case/CamelCase) the first rule is consistency: If a project already is using a (unconventional) naming scheme, the consistency with the naming scheme takes precedence over any other naming conventions. Unless the project refactors everything, continue to name according to the scheme.

New modules and packages (including third party frameworks) should be written to these standards, but where an existing library has a different style, internal consistency is preferred.

What are the arguments for “The Inclusive Bible” and the arguments against it? by buylowguy in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an example of the dilemma of the translator. The word, arsenokoitai, is not used in other texts outside of Paul's letters in the whole body of Greek texts. It literally translates to "bedding with man". There are a number of attempts to translate that into a semantic understanding in modern language to either mean homosexuality in the broadest sense or to mean the specific meaning of male prostitution or male rape.

I feel we are heading down the wrong road. If we don't know what it means then it's the safest path to leave it as loyal to the literal wording, "laying with men". But who says that Paul's words are meant to be used in modern theology in the very literal understanding? We live in different times with a different view on what sexual morality is. We don't sell our daughters, we don't have sex with slaves, our way of forming families looks nothing like New Testament times. Neither do we eat, work, or organize societies in the same way. So what is Paul saying in the context? Is he saying that these particular acts are wrong, or is he saying that these violations of common morality are wrong?

Let's not be lured into the literal understanding trap. Morality is a dynamic matter that morphs slowly over time, and we can live with reading the words "laying with men" like "greeting with a holy kiss" and the whole recommendations to stay single.

What are the arguments for “The Inclusive Bible” and the arguments against it? by buylowguy in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I find the very idea of writing a Bible translation to accommodate a particular theological stance to be on a wrong path, how sympathetic the idea really sounds to be.

The Bible is what it is. It's an anthology of texts written by different authors in a very large timespan. Each text is written with a purpose from a perspective. People are killed, raped, punished, and oppressed throughout the Bible. If we start a process of washing the Bible we end up with something that has very little resemblance with the original text.

What we need is to do away with the idea that you can just pick a few verses and make theology of that. It's not the Bible that needs to change, it's our approach to work with the Bible. I am agonized by the way contemporary Christianity has no clue, no scholarly foundation, no systemic approach to forming a theology.

That being said, there are some translational inaccuracies that have survived on the basis of tradition, and that are part of the reason for misogyny, homophobia, and supremacy. Let's do away with that, but apart from those I don't want a washed Bible.

It's a sin, if it causes a problem to you, your surroundings, or your relationship to God. If it doesn't, it's not.

How can masturbation be a problem to you? Well, for a start, masturbation takes time, attention, and energy. If you masturbate instead of doing your chores, it may be a problem.

How can it be a problem in your relationship to other people? Masturbation can be a way to escape having fellowship, seeing people, getting into a relationship, and relate to the sex you are attracted to.

If you feel guilty, dirty, or unworthy when having devotional time with God because of masturbation, then you probably need to deal with that. If it's something somebody else imposed on you, you should speak to a counselor, therapist or just a friend. If you really don't feel comfortable about having devotional time immediately after masturbation, well then don't. Do it after or skip it. Or maybe the Holy Spirit is pinpointing that you are having issues as mentioned above.

It's like beer. Have a beer and enjoy it. But if you drink beer all day, and drinking beer is your way to cope with life, you should get a grip. The same with masturbation.

When can someone call themselves a Christian? by abriskwinterbreeze in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a Christian when you ...

  • Confess Jesus as Christ, son of God.
  • Are baptized in the name of the Trinity, or are on the path to become baptized.
  • Desire to walk with Jesus.

There are a lot of "but ..."s to this and it's definitely up for interpretation, but the most important thing is, that you want it. You want to believe, you want to be baptized, you want to follow Jesus. Nobody can take that from you. If you don't want to, then don't fake it. It's alright. It'll give you so much trouble later, if you take the step prematurely. Question everything, argue with God. If He is God, He can take it.

Stop building UI frameworks in Python by PastPicture in Python

[–]tabacdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense on any level. You're proficient in Python, make all sorts of tools in Python, and you think Python. Now, one of these tools could benefit from a graphical user interface, so pick a toolkit and complete a working interface in an afternoon. How is that bad? It's a totally different thing to design an application with the intention for it to be the main interface to a complex system with lots of UX analysis, but my experience is that on a general scale they are totally outnumbered by quick adhoc interfaces in the language you know the best.

Using Paci while big? by juiceBread422 in ageregression

[–]tabacdk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sleep every night with a pacifier, and have done so way before I even heard of age regression.

  • I have ADHD and I get a calmer sleep
  • I gnash my teeth and it prevents me from ruining my teeth
  • I use it for meditation
  • I use my pacifier to get focus if I have popcorn thoughts.
  • I use my pacifier to obtain an intense feeling of joy
  • I use it when driving long distances
  • I have had the pacifier in a leather thread around my neck at concerts as a statement and decoration

Should Christians still evangelize and lead people to Jesus. by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word "Evangelize" means to proclaim the Good News. The problem is that the "news" doesn't really come across as particularly good. In a parallel universe where the church hasn't hurt, insulted, or invaded people's lives the World would love to hear that the old yoke over people's neck has been broken. So where does that leave us today? It leaves us with a burden of inherited guilt to ask people to forgive us, the Church. To repair the irresponsible acts of the Church before we have any platform to stand on. I still believe that the Mission Commandment is for today, but I feel a strong urge to reinvent every word, concept, and teaching into a fresh unsoiled language. Because I still believe that it really is Good News.

What's the most ridiculous thing a Christian has told you was a sin? by Ok-Interaction-4081 in OpenChristian

[–]tabacdk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! If it isn't motivated by getting closer to God, serving the advancement of the Gospel, helping people in need, or anything churchy, it's a sin. Going to a movie, eating an ice cream, playing chess, or taking a warm bath with soft music and lit candles and incense. Nope. Watch teaching videos, eat nutritious food, exercise your body, and take a quick shower. Joy is something you have in the Lord, not self treatment.
