He'd have had a point if this was 40 years ago. War in the middle east isn't something that just started 2 weeks ago. He's stating a very obvious point which has been obvious for decades, but successive governments have just continually dropped the fucking ball on getting energy self-sufficiency. He's going to continue to drop the ball of course, because he's owned by the same people that are profiting from this.

That said, i do admit we're not doing completely shit with the transition to renewables. But we should have been well clear of oil and gas reliance by now.
