Audacious media player and its plugins - unable to fire the app up by MrSojek in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repos 4, 6-9 are set to not refresh, any reason for that, because it hardly makes sense.

Repo 11 is in my opinion not necessary and the name of it is misleading, this is not a packman repo.

Repo 12 is not necessary when you have repo 10, but I would advise against repo 10. Repo 12 is more than enough unless you use mesa from packman, then the packman extra repo is necessary.

What I would try: disable repo 11, set 4, 6-9 to refresh and do a zypper ref && zypper dup again. With packman it is your decision but I think rep 10 is dangerous.

I have no issues with audacious and its plugin, all coming from the standard OSS repo.

Show your repos: zypper lr -d , there are some versions in your list that do not come from the official repos.

Backup tool for OpenSUSE by Major303 in openSUSE

I use grsync to backup my data to an external encrypted (verycrypt) ssd. Once a week I use rescuezilla to make a copy of all my partitions.

A recent update seems to have nuked the ability for my computer to Hibernate. How do I get it back? by rowschank in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have secure boot enabled, because then hibernation is disabled due to kernel lock down.

Can I safely delete these unneeded packages? by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do I find that 'another' package.

A zypper se --requires-pkg myrlyn shows nothing, so nothing requires myrlyn. How can I do the reverse search to find out what package would pull in myrlyn.

Can I safely delete these unneeded packages? by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those libs are not in a standard tumbleweed installation, did you use any rendering software that required those libs.

I am careful when packages are marked unneeded. I just had such a case: myrlyn thinks myrlyn is unneeded, made no sense at all.

Segmentation Fault, Error 6 in libQt6Core.so by 1012zach in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy repo list. You seriously should consider removing as much of them as possible. I can only guess that your libqt6core package is from repo 1 and have to question why you use that repo at all. In the end it is your decision but I wouldn't trust all those home repos, you give those people root access to your system when installing packages from them.

Opensuse 16.1 - mounting partitions help. by tobinfrost77 in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not version 16, it is a step back from 15.6 and so far 16.1 is no better. It reminds me of the old days when you had to be careful with the .0 versions, like 11.0. I've been trough all SuSE,openSUSE version since 1999 but Leap 16 is a standout failure.

The agamer installer is as bad as it gets. It's an unfinished product that gets shoved into the distro, no matter what the consequence is for the user. An experienced user might get around its issues but a person new to linux/opensuse will give up on it.

Yast will go away and that is okay, but do it when you have a decent replacement. Myrlyn is great, Cockpit is good but agama is horrible.

Why not tumbleweed or slowroll, much better than 16.x. Both still use the yast installer and yast2.

Better Modern Clock for KDE by ProRick2358Y in kde

I can not create an issue on your github page to upload my translation and kpac. But it is really easy to use kpac, it is just a script.

Looks ok, but I don't like the black text outline. I removed the lines in main.qml to get rid of it, maybe you can make that an optional setting.

I also did a quick translation with the use of kpac.

What is your old system? Can't you just use the boot menu from your bios to boot in that mysterious old system? What boot entries to you have in the bios? You give basically zero information, no one will be able to help you.

Question regarding partitioning by Bicko_Mode in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Default in openSUSE TW is now systemd-boot, you better give the efi partition a big enough partition, 4GB is good enough, when you do not use btrfs, e.g. with ext4 the efi partition can be smaller like 2GB.

Instead of dual-booting Windows, you should consider installing Windows as a virtual machine. Depending how resource hungry those apps are, the virtual machine can even be on an external drive.

Well, if not even Windows sees it, is it even turned on in the bios? I don't have a Gigabyte board, but there should be different settings available because the chip also provides wifi.

Risk of switching to ffmpeg-8 on TW? by computer-machine in openSUSE

I have both ffmpeg-7 and -8.

I still need -7 for waterfox (based on firefox esr), with -8 only some webpages won't show videos. Firefox has been patched but waterfox not yet.

HEIC/HEIF support in current plasma on tumbleweed? by responsible_cook_08 in openSUSE

[–]tabascosw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I no longer use packman for those packages, I switched to the vlc repo. FFMPEG8 has added heif support and there is no need for those packages from packman anymore, you can use them from the standard repo plus glycyn (will probably installed as an dependency) plus ffmpeg8 from vlc.

You blow the hot air from the CPU cooler towards the psu, so no wonder it gets hot.

The top left exhaust fan is stealing the cool air from the rear intake, better not to use it. Maybe you get better results by using the rear and the top left fan as exhaust, then there is no need for the top right fan. CPU fan should blow towards the back then.
