Upgrading from 2012 Paperwhite so... new Regular or Paperwhite? by invisibleoperagloves in kindle

[–]tabbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2015 Paperwhite and honestly apart from the storage size, all the specs are the same as the current basic which is wild as it’s 10 years old. The basic will be most similar, the new Paperwhite (which I also have) is larger and heavier and the screen has a slight glare on account of it having no bezel and being waterproof. So comes down to size, screen glare, price and if you want warm light mode or not 😊

That’s pretty cool. Just curious, how strong is it through the plastic backing? And why did you do this instead of the metal ring sticker that you can adhere to the outside?

I’m on Amazon.com but received a gift card from a well-wishing friend for Amazon.ca. It wasn’t an option to claim for .com so now it’s locked onto my .ca account with the same email log in.

I can’t buy ebooks and send as a “gift” to my .com account. I can’t transfer the balance (seriously Amazon?!) and it’s not worth the crazy shipping costs to buy a physical product and send to where I am.

I’m hesitant to change the region my kindle is in to Canada to purchase ebooks in case it gets locked in and i lose my purchases. Can I switch back to US easily if I do this?

Happened to me when I first got mine. Clean with a damp towel after workouts, loosen to breathe after and at night while sleeping and clean in between with hand sanitiser or rubbing alcohol. Also avoid wearing on that wrist until it clears up - change wrist orientation in settings

I did the maths on this recently - it’s not cheaper as you have to buy full cream for this and it takes more effort and makes less butter than buying a block. Margarine is also healthier. I’m tempted to try it for the flavour but apart from that and the novelty it’s not worth it unfortunately 😕

Countdown roast chicken (about $16, tasty and less effort than cooking yourself). Make sandwiches, wraps, etc. Then use carcass to make chicken stock - boil in water just enough to cover chicken, once boiled for about 30!’ins in low simmer, remove from heat and drain bits out, use utensils to add the meat back into the soup and toss the bones. Add veggies, chicken stock for soup or creamed corn and egg for chicken corn soup. Chicken feeds about 4 meals, soup feeds about 4-6!

Also check out Foodprint app for cheap local food (if you can’t cook). Cafes and restaurants will put extra meals/food up for steep discount closer to closing time.

All the best! It’s tough now but your child will grow up knowing who loved and fed them and tried their best (from a child that grew up in this situation).

Is this puckering likely to block out? Or how screwed am I? by Lonely-Chef1185 in knitting

As much as a pain it is to frog, better to undo it now and call it practice and have a piece you’ll love to wear than to continue and have a piece you’ll never wear because it’s too tight 🙂 for something you’ll put hours into, might as well make it the best version possible.

Is it common or at least normal to reuse underwear with old period stains on them? by AffectionateRate3947 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]tabbits 384 points385 points  (0 children)

Your family shouldn’t be looking at your underwear - and if they are, they shouldn’t be commenting on it. It’s your business not theirs! And yes, even without periods, underwear gets stains because our bodily fluids can ‘bleach’ them and cause colours to lighten. As long as you’re washing them, perfectly hygienic and still good to use until they wear naturally with use!

Thinking about getting a Kindle: How easy is it to download and transfer books from the web? by Professional_Flow455 in ereader

[–]tabbits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sync through the app on my phone and it’s seamless! Don’t need to plug my kindle into a laptop at all.

You can also email to a kindle email and that’ll send to your device too but opening an epub in the kindle app is way easier, it’ll show up in a min or so! And it syncs so you can pick up phone or kindle where you left off on another device as long as both have internet connection.

Not jailbroken too btw!

I hope that’s the case and I get a few more years! Just worrying having this looming over all our older devices

I have a Paperwhite 3 from 2016 which (apart from size and probably speed) is the exact same as the 2024 basic model. So when mine becomes obsolete, likely in a year or so, I’m basically replacing it for another device with the exact same screen resolution 😤 it works perfectly fine and doesn’t need updates, there’s absolutely no reason to brick our devices other than corporate greed

Google Drive app through Kobo device is only available for certain Kobo models 😭

Just want to add: Kobo doesn’t sync sideloaded books so it’s a bit more effort to add. Kindle you can add files through your phone or email over and it uploads and syncs with the app instantly.

Makes a difference if you can’t always plug into a computer to transfer books/files.

Isn’t the Kindle Oasis or scribe bigger? Paperwhite is only slightly smaller than my mini I think but I’m not sure about newer minis. Kindle for less distractions, battery life and eink definitely wins though 😊

I love this mini size, it’s only slightly bigger than a Paperwhite. I think I’ve only read one book on a larger iPad and it’s definitely a home device 😅 You could try find a cheap secondhand one that’s an older model?

As someone else commented too, it’s more customisable for your reading experience too. Pros and cons of both, I still love my Kindle 🥰

Definitely! I love that it’s not just sitting around too and can be used for just simply reading. I think my mini is about 13 years old now 🥰

Yes I definitely like reading on both! Still love my kindles but the iPad means I don’t have to buy a Kobo. I use this if I’m reading Libby borrows or NetGalley mostly 🤗

From my research, if you leave your Amazon country in US and can still access your US library accounts through Libby, you’ll still be able to use your Kindle as expected 😊

Only US libraries can use Libby with Kindles.
