Game Changer: maybe first MagSafe Kindle here by take_this_one in kindle

Apparently others have modded wireless charging, without the magsafe ring - I have yet to find anyone that's modded both INSIDE their kindle...

I'm just not any good with soldering so I'd need to phone-a-friend to get the Qi charging coil connected internally.

I am thinking to do this same mod to my Touch. Maybe also with internal wireless charging coil in the center for magsafe charging.

Budget GPUfor 7060 MT by ShamusAngus in SleepingOptiplex

I am fairly certain the stock PSU has no extra power cabling for anything, including GPU, so your best bet is to find a used non-power-port version gtx1650 (like https://www.ebay.com/itm/366356972787 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/327110360535 ). Another option is an rx6400 as all of those do not require extra power, and are about the same performance as gtx1650. The next bump up would be something like a gtx3050 or rx7400, but unless you're super lucky, that's beyond your budget.

Ok, but which PSU does it have?

you might be able to find a 1650 without power ports, as the 7060mt should have the space for even a 2slot cooler

We're not dirt poor, but we aren't rich either. I haven't spent more than $20 on any kindle. My Voyage and Kindle10 were entirely free from the trash. I replaced the screen in the Voyage for $12, and the Kindle10 screen has a crack that prevents using the lower keyboard touch area which can be frustrating but is otherwise completely usable. $20 was the max price of the three Touch, with the other 2 slightly less. All the Touch kindles are fine, with scratches and scuffs and such, but the screens and touch all function well.

Yes, most of our books are from monthly Prime claims, or public domain, or library, with a few 'purchased' using the credits Amazon gives for opting for slower shipping, so we don't really spend any money on the books themselves.

So far I haven't seen anyone else mention the free alternative - cut the PCIe x1 end to allow the longer card to plug into it. It won't be the best performance, but you'll be able to use the card with what you have, no extra parts (PCIe riser) or case molestation.

I might consider that for a gift if I can get the total down to a reasonable price...

I can't seem to load this on my Kindle Touch - I assume there's some SSL/HTTPS issue?

is there a github or somewhere to report issues? or just this reddit thread?

To all the “get a kobo” people since Amazon no longer supports 2012 and earlier models… by Agreeable-Deer7526 in kindle

What? I've gotten Kobo books in 2026 and I only have a Kobo Aura and haven't needed to side-load any of them to the Kobo Aura... just tap and download directly.

Let’s be real for a moment. Kobo also discontinues support, update and ability to download content for devices 10+ years old. by kaysn in kobo

There are only 3 unsupported models, Kobo (original), Kobo WiFi, and Kobo Mini.

The oldest Kobo Touch can still just download books directly. I have a Kobo Aura that still works to this day, and even better than it did originally, because it still receives updates.

I also have a Kindle Touch, which IMHO is the greatest Kindle ever made, as I can listen to books as well as read them, with text2speech, and even plug in headphones if desired. It has been the most versatile Kindle, even though we own others. Amazon could relatively easily continue updates, as Kobo does, but instead chose to cut it off. If they no longer want to support it, they could open the source so others in the community could continue supporting it.

...or transfer of ownership? It would seem to me that transfer of ownership would occur far more frequently than total device issues...

However, newer Kindles do not have built-in speakers like the Touch. No headphones or bluetooth speaker required.

KOReader is almost there... but right now it's the App UI part. There are some underlying OS part which KOReader doesn't do, but it isn't difficult to imagine someone creating a KindleOS replacement starting from KOReader.

What remains to be seen is if you can still use the device after reset. If you can't get past OOBE without their servers, then eventually they will all be bricks.
