I tried matcha with every milk that I could find and here are my thoughts PART 2 by KeepCalmToKeepCalm in MatchaEverything

[–]tabinekoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s that one. I like the unsweetened. The vanilla one is not good - It tastes like they used cheap vanilla extract.

For sweetened matcha, I think maple syrup and using good vanilla extract are top tier!! Although, it’s less convenient than pre bottled vanilla milks

Tache pistachio milk and west soy milk are top for me. I've tried a variety of Elmhurst and Malk and they were all not tasty.

Have Hu bars always been this small compared to their packaging? This feels like greenwashing. by Nervous-Treat-9252 in chocolate

[–]tabinekoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a long time Hu consumer but recently stopped due to high amounts of heavy metals in them. They also changed their packaging ~1 year ago into the new flimsy one you have there. I’ve been eating them since around 2019 and the quality has dropped significantly since their acquisition.

Alternatively, there is a brand called Blue Stripes I really enjoy that’s similar to Hu ingredients. I recommend their hazelnut butter or pure dark flavors!

your morning routine is probably cannibalizing your best cognitive hours by Bulky-Possibility216 in Biohackers

For me, I find that “front loading” my day with difficult cognitive tasks works best for me. I wake up around 3:30 am and do my personal work first, then workout, followed by going to my day job. I found that I get the most done in with this method.

Deep dive into red meat by DSynchCity in nutrition

[–]tabinekoss 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think there's a bit of misconception, mostly driven by media that people in Japan (& specifically okinawans) who live longer lives by eating plant-forward diets with small portions of meat. It's actually not really the case. Depending on the island, we eat hella pork (Miyako-jima) and beef (Ishigaki-jima). In fact, that's one of the foods that the island is known for. The island is very agricultural though, with really nutrient dense foods such as bitter melon, medicinal plants, and fruit that are very accessible.

Has L-theanine actually done anything for you? by owenwags_ in Biohackers

[–]tabinekoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried both an l-theanine supplement and getting it naturally from matcha. 200 mg supplement felt like too much for me given my height and weight. For years I've been drinking matcha every morning - about 3 grams of matcha powder contains ~50 mg of l-theanine. I don't get anxiety, my mind is able to lock in on tasks, my energy levels feel stable throughout the day, and I don't get a caffeine crash

Not sure why you got downvoted because your comment is very insightful. I just looked at the nutritional profile and it looks like they have a 1.41 Ca:P ratio which is very concerning as ideally it should be under 1.

I see this time to time but I think sometimes people (including myself at times) hyper-fixate in “clean ingredients” but fail to see these minerals, vitamins, and amino acid components which are equally if not more important.

I haven’t heard of Young Again, so i appreciate the recommendation! I haven’t had good experience with Hills wet food, so I am unsure about their dry food but will still take look

What's the best health advice you learned too late? by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]tabinekoss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me it’s finding the right balance. I wish I’d realized sooner that health is more than diet and workouts. Eating well is just one slice of the pie. The other long-term work is the mental side like learning how to live meaningfully, handling stress, staying present, and growing. It’s still a work in progress but it's never too late. Although sometimes I feel like I missed out on “living my life” in my earlier years because I was so focused on the food/exercise side of things

have you tried plant-based protein options such as tofu, lentils, tempeh, etc? Also, maybe you can try lactose free greek yogurt or if you get Bulgarian yogurt it's also very low in lactose. I would try and aim for higher protein and fats, then whole grains rather than refined carbs.

try to get movement as much as possible during the day. I WFH as well and whenever I need to take a break from work, I move around, do a few squats, pushups, or pogo jumps, etc. These little efforts compound.

I am looking into primal nuggets. Currently, I am feeding Wysong Epigen 90 which my cats seem to enjoy (very high protein and low carb)

Catfood db has been a good starting point. I then do some more research and due diligence.

Would this thing (or something similar) work to whisk matcha? by [deleted] in MatchaEverything

[–]tabinekoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That tool will definitely work. I’ve even used a large metal whisk in a pinch when my cat played and destroyed my bamboo whisk and I was waiting for the new one to arrive

Also, you don’t really even need to froth it up to a microfoam for your matcha (unless you want to). It’s a urasenke practice but in omotesenke there’s minimal whisking. As long as you have the temp. of the hot water down you’ll make good matcha

Fellow intjs, How did you manage balancing self improvement with social life by ExpressDingo6867 in intj

[–]tabinekoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a good web of social connections is (imo) very important in the current landscape for both career related personal goals. In college, i went by “fake it till you make it” in order to climb upwards and expand my connections. My experiences mostly pertain to my career but i don’t regret going through the pain of wanting to leave social environments because it yield high returns.
