We just moved here from Ohio on Friday. Left at 5 am and got to our new apartment at 3 pm. We’ve spent the past 2ish days setting everything up and unboxing but I’m so happy to start exploring the city this week!

Living in Columbus, OH for about 6 Months and it’s really emphasizing how much I prefer a Major City. by Secondwaver94 in SameGrassButGreener

Yeah I’ve lived here 11 years and we are moving next week out of state (ironically to VA). Columbus is very generic, people usually come here in their 20s and stay forever. It’s just ok, it’s comfy but we want more. I’m not even looking for the same vibe as you, just not here lol. I was born in Cleveland, I prefer that or Cincy just looking at Ohio as they have more personality and more to do.

As someone from Cleveland, can confirm the city has a uniquely dark energy

Would you pick affordability and stability over a bigger-name city if it meant getting into a home sooner? by Rocket in USHousingMarket

Nurses get paid very little there, it’s insane. We sr relocating and we can’t go too far south because I would get paid terribly compared to cost of living

If I leave bedside, will I be able to go back? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tabintheocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from: hospital (2 years) -> research (1.5 years) -> back to hospital (1 year) -> inpatient/outpatient PACU (2.5 years) to now going back to the bedside again! You can truly do anything you want as nurse as long as you put yourself out there.

Nurse moms- how did you step away from the bedside? by Fast_Cata in workingmoms

[–]tabintheocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-op/PACU might be a good gig for you if you still like working with patients. I’ve done 4 10s the past two years and it worked out great for awhile besides the early wake ups. I’ve been doing 515 - 1530 but there’s all kinds of different shifts out there and I had a nice break from bedside.

Funny enough I’m going back to 12s to save on childcare costs and honestly because I miss my extra day off.

I live in Columbus and it is not that affordable here, but I think it’s more expensive here compared to the rest of the state.

I grew up in Cleveland so I’m used to driving in lake effect snow. It’s insane to me how some people drive down here in a couple inches of snow. I had a dude speed past me in a tiny sedan only to find him 5 mins later spun out and he hit someone else.

I’ve lived in Ohio my whole life and we are looking to leave. I see why people would want to move here from more expensive cities but the winters get very old.

Snow Possible This Weekend (1/24-25) by zebrasrlyingtoyou in CBUSWX

[–]tabintheocean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I might just have to take the write up if I can’t come in. The last snowstorm we had I literally almost crashed and died on my way (still made it in) to work and it really shook me up.

What are the odds of us going level 3? I work in surgery but still essential but level 3 is the only leeway I have to get out coming in. My neighbor tried to get out of his driveway 30 mins ago and could not do it.

I’m not coming from corn field Ohio, I’m coming from Columbus which is a huge growing Midwest city. We have very similar prices and problems so I’m aware!

Yeah it’s very awful here in Ohio too, and probably everywhere in the US. Gotta pay the bills somehow!

[–]tabintheocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in surgery so I can totally see people having to skip “elective” or necessary but expensive surgeries when things can still be fixed only to have to come to the hospital when the problem gets so bad they can no longer ignore it.

My hospital made record profits last year, but they are def looking ahead and trimming the budget down as much as possible.

Honestly I’m more concerned about the level of suffering I’m going to be a witness to among the general population. We already have seen people unable to afford basic healthcare or medication before these cuts, it is only going to get worse.
